You can look up political campaign donations (many different ways), but type in some zipcodes near you. On the right it should give you a total amount dontated to each political party for that particular zipcode.

Next, compare nice neighborhoods to rougher ones... upper class ones to lower class ones. Make a note of which party receives more political donations, republican vs democrat.

From trying this out myself, I've noticed that the nicer the neighborhood, the higher the donations to republican candidates. The worse the neighborhood, the higher the donations to democratic candidates.

Surprising that people living in undesirable neighborhoods would have money to donate. Could campaign fraud be involved?

That's not surprising. I bet the worse the neighborhood the less educated the residents.

That would explain the support of democrats.

And if we followed your logic, what have you just said about the entire state of Ohio???

I imagine no one would be having taxation level problems in any part of the spectrum, nor would anyone be needing a handout of any kind, if they simply had a living wage in their hands.

Yes, dream the impossible dream. We wouldn't need politicians of any cloth anymore. Business interests would need no defense, labor interests would need no defense, because everyone magically got fair/ respectful/ reasonable all by themselves!

I was joking.

And there is no such thing as a living wage. That is just some nonsense term.

Employers are not there to provide a "living" wage. They are responsible for paying for what the job is worth. Nothing more.

If someone doen't feel they can live on said wage it is THEIR responsibility to improve their situation so they can earn more money.

Employers are not charities.

Living wage is nonsense. It is a meaningless term.

To be fair, we are talking about zipcodes, not entire states. My state is overwhelmingly democratic too, but most of the nicer areas are not.

Here is a very nice upper class neighborhood a few miles from me for 2008

$187,843 was given by people who identified their city as "jericho, ny".
$56,302 from 38 people to Republicans
$131,541 from 91 people to Democrats

A very wealthy neighborhood

$178,476 was given by people who identified their city as "sands point, ny".
$61,743 from 33 people to Republicans
$116,733 from 60 people to Democrats

The mostly middle class zipcode area I grew up in and lived in 2008

$43,002 was given by people who identified their zip as "11762".
$15,074 from 16 people to Republicans
$27,928 from 30 people to Democrats

Similar neighborhood nearby

117 results found, showing 1 - 50

$107,206 was given by people who identified their zip as "11758".
$56,128 from 48 people to Republicans
$51,078 from 60 people to Democrats

I find this one more interesting

Deployed Troops Donating 6:1 to Obama | Vets for Obama (http://vetsforobama.org/2008/08/14/deployed-troops-donating-61-to-obama/ - broken link)

This is a shocking figure. While figures among military personnel overall are more evenly spread, donations from troops stationed overseas at the time of their donation have given $60,642 to Barack Obama’s campaign, compared to $10,665 for McCain.

134 people? Spare me, please. You are talking about a statistically insignificant number of political campaign donors. Not to mention, if you break it down to republican donations vs. democrat donations, more was given to republicans.

Quote:
Contributions from U.S. Troops Deployed Abroad Recipient Total Number Obama, Barack $60,642 134 Paul, Ron $45,512 99 McCain, John $10,665 26 Huckabee, Mike $7,950 10 Thompson, Fred $6,350 7 Romney, Mitt $5,550 10 Clinton, Hillary $3,240 6

Even if you take into account ALL members of the military (not just deployed), you're still at a very small number.
