And how exactly do you plan on this enforcement without registration/background check requirements? And, speaking of the criminally insane, where in the constitution does it say who can or cannot own a gun?
I agree that the holes are in the enforcment of who should and should not carry are very large.
In Az, open carry is "normal" - and no background check is required to carry in the open.
The Constitution does not say who can and cannot own a firearm.

If you see holes, do you have a solution to offer? And yes, the constitution doesn't specify who can or cannot own a gun, yet we talk about the criminally insane and that they shouldn't be able to.
Well if u want to own a gun u have to take the proper steps. The laws are for the protection of all. Not everyone should own a gun and the government takes minimal precautions to weed out people like convicted felons and the legally incompetent.
Actually, you do need a permit to utilize first amendment rights at times, when there is a chance of you being a nuisance. Also look at voter registration. Bad idea?
I'll have you know that the 1st Amendment was establishing the right to freedom of speech precisely to be a "nuisance". What a RIDICULOUS comment. Therefore, anything the government finds to be a "nuisance" is subject to restriction? I can't believe someone can be smart enough to walk and talk, and then say something like this.

It doesn't, and you don't. That's why the right is there ... including the right to shoot the crazy arse that is trying to harm you. It's really quite a simple concept. The right to keep and bear arms is for your protection ... including felons and crazy people, which may be considered redundant.
There is no power granted the government to be OUR nanny. OK. You want a nanny, go hire one.

Are you saying a permit is never needed?

And yet, you likely support restrictions on the criminally insane. No?
All right have limits. 2nd amendment nuts place themselves above the Supreme Court. But really only on internet boards. None of these guys is anything other than a chicken little in real life. Somebody want to be a man? Bring your gun to Washington DC, strap it on and walk down Pennsylvania Ave. Time to put up or shut up.
It's funny people cry about gun owners, and gun rights until the lights go out. Take the riots in Califorina. Those without guns ran to the ones that did to protect them, the police were too busy.
Beacuse owning a gun and walking around with one on your hip are two different things. ONly thing I would like to see is a federal permit that allows someone with the licence to carry in all the states.
Casper
I dont think there should be any federal permit at all, I just wish the states would follow the "full faith and credit" clause of the Constitution.
There is no such thing as a political right.
Explain yourself.
A civil right is a right something like equality, hate crime protection, protection against discrimination, that sort of thing. Jefferson called them "natural rights".
A political right is due process, right to bear arms, freedom of speech, fair and speedy trial, that sort of thing.
