NASHUA, N.H.—President Barack Obama said for the first time Tuesday that legislation that would require industries to pay for emissions of greenhouse gases may need to be separated from a more popular "green jobs" bill in the Senate, a maneuver that could kill what once had been one of the administration's top policy priorities.
***
The idea behind the cap-and-trade aspect of the climate bill is to create a market in permits that confer the right to emit greenhouse gases, which are believed to contribute to global warming. Businesses would be required to hold these permits, and over time the government would curtail the supply of permits to reduce the total amount of gases produced.

A White House spokesman downplayed the president's comments, saying Mr. Obama still favored a bill that would combine measures to encourage jobs in green-energy fields with the establishment of a trading mechanism for emissions.
***
The climate bill in the Senate is opposed by legislators from both parties whose local economies rely on fossil fuels, and smokestack industries like steel mills and coal-fired utilities. These lawmakers worry a cap-and-trade system will burden these industries with new costs.

Thanks for the post it is the best news I have heard in a long time. That means my utilities bills won't be going up since the companies won't be passing the cost of cap and trade on to me.And that gives me more money for consumer spending and less money to Gore and his Goldman Sach's buddies who are positioned to sell off sets and rake in billions.

We've got until the end of this year before our electric rates jump at least 30%. I think ANY talk about cap and trade increasing utility costs will be a huge issue in the November elections. I think cap and trade legislation will be thrown out or completely watered down and rendered powerless.

Great news, cap and trade was an abomination, just look at what it would have done to North Dakota....

Quote:
In worst-case scenario, the study shows if cap-and-trade passed, North Dakota would lose between 5,000 and 7,000 jobs by 2030, the gross state product would be reduced by as much as $3.1 billion and state budget revenues would drop between $220 million and $310 million.

The study further showed that costs of gasoline would increase by 24 percent, electricity by 64 percent and natural gas up to 77 percent by 2030.
Beware cap-and-trade

This was before the Massachusetts election but look for a new name called "Cap and Dividend".......

Quote:
Fight global warming, get $1,100 a year - Dec. 30, 2009

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- A new proposal to curb global warming could jump start stalled Senate greenhouse gas discussions and put an average of $1,100 a year back into the pockets of American consumers.

Known as cap-and-dividend, the recently introduced bill would require oil, coal, and natural gas companies to buy permits each month to sell their fuel. Three quarters of the proceeds would be returned to the public each month in the form of a dividend check, with the remainingmoney going towards renewable energy, conservation or assistance programs.
So the idea is drive your energy costs through the roof which the politicians will then blame in the energy companies and they come to the recuse with a $1,100 check....

Here's a really interesting quote, warning you will need government issued calculator to be able to figure this one out:

Quote:
A staffer for the bill's other sponsor, Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said that after receiving some $1,100 in rebate checks each year and paying higher gas and electric prices, the average Maine consumer would come out $102 ahead.
So lets say the charge the energy company $1000 which is passed onto you , the fed takes $250 and then somehow magically is able to return your $1000 plus some extra.

if anyone thought that obama was looking out for american "workers", cap and trade certainly kills that idea. wall street will be the big beneficiary of cap and trade.
Obama is not going to screw over his wall street and banking buddies they own him just like Presidents before him. They will pull his strings and bribe the congress and make billions. And the rest of us of course will get the shaft and it will be way bigger then this guys thumb

Don't think they won't try to pass this bs C&T bill. They will. They'll do it against the will of the people and using whatever crooked & corrupt means at their disposal. The power companies have already began installing so called "smart meters" that will help facilitate portions of this "control" bill.

Even if the Republicans take control in Nov. which they probably will nothing will change. The health care disaster won't change and if this traitorous bill is passed, neither will it.

I know all you loony lefties will claim paranoia and how this idea is so progressive and with the times and blah, blah, etc, etc. But the German people made the same claims before the Nazi's took over as well. Bear that in mind.

This is good to hear, but we are nowhere near the end of the fight. As citizens, we must remain vigilant, never complacent, and we must continue to vocalize our wishes to our representatives.

Cynnicism and skepticism are enough to unravel even the grandest of Al Gore's Green Utopic Fantasy Schemes.

Simply put, politicizing science is nothing but a death knell for any group of politicians. Unfortunately for ObamaPelosiReid, it happened on their watch, and thus Cap and Trade with any semblance of the House Bill will not be resurrected for at least another decade. American's and citizens worldwide are clued in to the fake science that almost had them duped into paying higher taxes. C&T is dead, although Democrats will hem-and-haw to make you believe its not. Bet on it.
