Americans are still looking for the answer, and if they don’t get it soon — or if they don’t like the answer — the president’s current political problems will look like a walk in the park.

Very good article.

"...more important than the content of this speech (Wednesday) will be whether the president really means what he says. Americans want to know what he stands for, where his line in the sand is, what he’ll really fight for, and where he wants to lead this nation. They want to know who their president really is."

I don't count on getting the truth. This man is stuck in a political rut, deeply formed by his corrupt, conniving, scheming Chicago political background, and is making no effort to rid himself of it. He has created a credibility gap so huge that it's impossible to close it now.

We didn't know who he is before he was elected, and we won't find out now.
He'll check which way the wind is blowing, and always adjust his sails to take him to HIS goal. There's no hope of change there.

Good read indeed. Thanks for posting it.

But no sooner was he elected than he put together an economic team that would protect, above all, the interests of Wall Street, the pharmaceutical industry, the health insurance companies, and so on.How can you look out for the interests of working people with Tim Geithner whispering in one ear and Larry Summers in the other?
If he was smart and truly wanted to "fight for the people", he would rid his administration of the special interests and actually follow through on what he campaigned on. I don't think he has the political will to do it though.

Very good article.....and from the NY Times too.

When this newspaper starts publishing opinion articles of this nature.....you know things are really looking bleak for this president!

As much as I despise the thought of watching anymore of his speeches......the State of the Union speech tomorrow night is a MUST.
Just have to see what his "new" plan consists of.
Should be quite amusing.....SAD, but amusing.

Credibility?

GONE....just like that of his Party.

He's going to try to pick up the pieces and change direction to fit the political strategy that he and his advisors have decided would work best to try to prevent a mid-term disaster at the polls.

IF he gives people what they want (knowing that a lot of them will "sell" their votes for benies and freebies), he'll do his best to do that.

I like the way he always uses the term "hard working" when he refers to Americans or families: "Hard working families", "Hard working Americans". Does he acknowledge that everyone who works is a hard worker, or is he implying that there's a class of "working Americans" that aren't giving their all.

Actually, he should concentrate on jobs. Not all that many "working" Americans out there today any more.

Obama's basically screwed because there's no way he can give something to everyone. After the ridiculous back room deals and bribes he and his party made for the health care reform disaster, any effort to provide relief to only certain segments of the population and not others is going to look like he's STILL making back room deals and giving bribes to his favored groups. He'll continue to be attacked for being corrupt, and his attackers will be successful at further damaging his character and credibility. He'll take the Dems down with him.

End game.

Yeah....he implies this to a degree, I believe.
Guess we are all supposed to be good, little VOLUNTEERS.....and get used to the idea of working for free....or risk appearing as though we are not "hard working Americans."

Many a Hollyweird celeb. thinks volunteering is good too.

Too bad it doesn't pay the bills.

I think he is implying that Bankers and Executives don't deserve the money they make cause. The is usually the parallel drawn everytime he utters "hard working".
