We've been trading with Canada and Mexico for years. And, since you're in the UP, and probably didn't know, you can drive from Canada to Mexico already. All I69 is going to do is to curb several hundred miles off the trip, thus making transportation costs cheaper, creating more jobs from increased earnings, and bringing jobs to parts of America that didn't have interstate access already.
First of all Canadians won't give up their soveriegnty and niether will Americans and I doubt Mexicans will either. Turn off Lou Dobbs and his illegal alien hysteria. We have been trading with both nations ever since we became a nation and we are still here!

this sounds like the same logic that gave us NAFTA -open up the trade and everybody benefits! however, the import / export numbers and unemployment statistics do not back that theory up.......
Persoanlly i would be more worried about the massive terminals at teh ports on bot coast effecting more than tis highway. trade is the future ;face it and has been for decades. Some peopel just can't get use tot eh idea that the US does not produce evryhting now days that foreignwers buy like in teh 50's. Its a world economy like ot or not.
You do realize it's a long term goal and each state has their own plan with their own name.
They are all "corridors" though and they are being built to promote trade movement.."free trade" movement.
Starts with a port in Mexico where goods are transported via Mexican trucks to an international hub in Kansas City and then onward to Canada.

Interstates are a little different then the NAFTA agreement. Opening up road travel through the United States makes sense.

i understand what you are saying, but consider this:
the highway is part of a broader plan advanced by a quasi-government organization called the “Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America,” or SPP.
The SPP was first launched in 2005 by the heads of state of Canada, Mexico, and the United States at a summit in Waco.
The SPP was not created by a treaty between the nations involved, nor was Congress involved in any way. Instead, the SPP is an alliance of foreign consortiums and officials from several governments. One principal player is a Spanish construction company, which plans to build the highway and operate it as a toll road. But don’t be fooled: the superhighway proposal is not the result of free market demand, but rather an extension of government-managed trade schemes like NAFTA that benefit politically-connected interests.
