HA! 12% of the 1,008 people they surveyed out of Germany's total pop. of approx. 84,500,200???!!!!

What a freakin' joke of a "survey" and "news" article.

In statistics a survey sample of 1,000 is a pretty well accepted size for a poll even in a country such as the U.S. with 300,000,000.

I have heard this before. Of course what I heard is that the former West Germans are sick of having to financially prop up their former East German brothers.

I have also heard South Koreans who do not want their country to be reunified with North Korea for this very reason.

Statistics have always peeved me because they are always used for evil...
and of course by that I mean there's always that lovely little bit we like to call a 'push poll' which is probably what this was as well.

As the other poster said, besides the millions murdered under communist rule, how about the strict enforcement of the wall through "shoot to kill",...how about them living day in and day out in constant fear of an invasion from the Soviet Union who, at the time, had already done so in many parts of eastern Europe.
