I find it odd that on CNN that they report an abundance of good jobs but not enough candidates... they go on to say they receive a BOATLOAD of applications for these jobs but no qualified candidate... they even write about a 30k-40k for a RN nurse with experience... huh? A RN nurse makes close to 100k and you wonder why nobody has filled that position for 30-40k? Huh? Are you stupid or something? Is CNN stupid for not realizing that salary is complete rip-off?? Then go on to say that other positions are available for experienced nurses but they only get newly graduated nurses applying for the job.... huh?? Again, is the writer completely idiotic? If you are a nurse with experience, you are employed... duh, why would you be unemployed? The new nurse graduates need jobs, so what is the problem? Then the writer has the audacity to mention a manufacturing director of lead whatever and says they can't find one... uhh... how many people do that kind of stuff? A dozen? You think you can find one with that kind of experience "just like that"??? The article was so retarded, it comes down to the premise, there aren't ANY jobs out there for regular people.... start writing an article about a job that requires a person that has walked on the moon before and complaining that there aren't enough qualified people is a joke....
Exactly. It's all about profiteering.
The days of company loyalty towards an employee, and vice versa has changed over the past 30 years. There is no loyalty any longer. Companies and corporations feel that if you can't do the job for what they're willing to pay, they'll just fill your boots with someone else.

That happened years ago when the word "employee" got changed to "resource".

"Resource reduction" rather then "Employee layoffs" in many cases.
Abstract the actual "person" out of the equation and you've just made it sanitized for the public.

I don't blame people one bit for throwing loyalty under the bus.
I've done it myself in the past 1.5 years after I saw what they did to good, skilled employees at my place.

No love lost there as I'm just working for a paycheck now just waiting for that "tap on the shoulder" that tells me it's my turn to be part of a "resource reduction".

So many jobs have moved offshore as companies find ways to cut spending, as you all know. I believe it began in the 80s or 90s with British firms offshoring their jobs to India, with their strong colonial ties, and US firms followed.

Industries that have moved American jobs overseas:

Airlines, banks, law firms, computer companies, graphic design companies, movie studios, and of course manufacturing.

Oh, and Americans are getting surgeries and dental care overseas too. So, what kind of jobs will there be in America if we can't compete with low prices of the foreign market?

India offers skilled English-speaking workers with cheap wages -- who can compete with that?!

I know i don't sound optimistic but just exactly what can we do that NO ONE IN ANY OTHER COUNTRY can do? (P.S. We can't all work for the government!)

Tariffs. That will stop the bleeding and reverse it right there. These countries the factories are going to, do not have the consumer purchasing power to afford the crap they are building. They must sell to post industrial economies, primarily the US.

Your post is comical, but all too true unfortunately.

We (Americans) could also boycott foreign made items, but what's made in the U.S.A. anymore? Just about nothing. If tariffs are imposed, the foreign countries we trade with could boycott or impose tariffs on things they might purchase from us.

It seems pretty logical that there IS a trade imbalance.

I can tell you for sure that there is NO US manufacturer of toaster ovens anymore

I use my toaster oven alot and the cheap imported crap ones seem to break every 2-3 years where only 1/2 of it heats up. So I went on a hunt for an American made toaster oven and came up empty handed.
Sadly I bought another cheap imported piece of crap toaster oven.

I know what you're speaking of.
Go to wally-world, find a bread toaster, hey, it's a west bend, made in dairyland? nope. china. oh look, here's a rival, looks like the same as the west bend one, different color, price varies, made in china.

Buy it, bring it home, it burns the bread, and does absolutely nothing to a bagel or a english muffin. Truly junk.

What do I worry about most in products we buy? Safety. What about those chinese tires? Will they explode at 65 m.p.h.? Will that toaster set your home on fire?

It is frustrating.

Right. Many items are assembled in America with foreign parts and materials. So now you're paying more for crap. That doesn't work either.
