We and most the world western powers are not buy and china still has 5% growth. Who do we think we are kidding.Tyhey will just cut a aprt of those manufactured parts they buy from us and wait unitl we give in.
Even worse..they'll cut off the food ingredients we need since we don't manufacture them here anymore.
I think it's cute people think China really needs us, especially after they bought up so much gold and copper as an excellent hedge against a fall in the dollar.
Not as much as they used to have. They have been divesting furiously over the past year. Even secured their own oil with Iraq and invested $50 billion with IMF notes. They are also doing currency swaps with a number of trading partners. All of this leading away from the USD/Treasuries.
Curious about why China has done so well, an IMF research team recently examined the sources of that nation's growth and arrived at a surprising conclusion. Although capital accumulation--the growth in the country's stock of capital assets, such as new factories, manufacturing machinery, and communications systems--was important, as were the number of Chinese workers, a sharp, sustained increase in productivity (that is, increased worker efficiency) was the driving force behind the economic boom. During 1979-94 productivity gains accounted for more than 42 percent of China's growth and by the early 1990s had overtaken capital as the most significant source of that growth. This marks a departure from the traditional view of development in which capital investment takes the lead. This jump in productivity originated in the economic reforms begun in 1978.
Very interesting read. It shows that the number one growth engine for their country was worker productivity. The United States has been falling behind in this as of late. It appears as though the American worker isn't as productive as they once where, or we are just getting passed.
