WASHINGTON — Democrats sought to limit increases in the cost of insurance sold under a sweeping health care bill Friday as they labored to clear the final committee obstacle to a September showdown on President Barack Obama's top domestic priority.
A Republican attempt to strip out the government option was turned back on a vote of 31-28, an outcome suggesting that Democrats had a narrow working majority on a committee with 59 members.
The main problem that I have with this is that the public option won't begin until 2013. It must be ready from day one because alot of people don't have 3-4 years to wait. I'm surprised that the article didn't mention the Kucinich amendment. The Huff post usually covers things like that.

What amendment authored by Kucinich were you referring to?
No such deal has been reached. It's still just conjecture and a desperate move by the Huffington Report to make news. Neither CNN or Fox News has affirmed this. Here is the quote from the article which essentially said nothing
"We have agreed we need to pull together," said Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., the committee chairman. He said he hoped for a vote by early evening.

He added an amendment to HR 3200 that would allow individual states to create their own single-payer health care systems. It's already passed in one committee (sorry I don't recall which one at the moment) with bi-partisan support.
