The 246 k will provide for only 2400 man hours of labor at a typical charge of $100 per hour. Lots of companies have a shop charge of $100 per hour. These are very big doors. But they are probably not big enough for the outhouse where all the conservative BS is stored.

These links shows that the contract was awarded on 9/9/2008 - before Obama was elected.
AWARD | 99 | "Recovery" (FNWZ050040P6 Repair Hangar Doors, 5112, Dyess AFB, TX) | 27-Jun-09 - FBO#2770

FBO#2770 | 27-Jun-09 | AWD | 99--Miscellaneous

It seems the contract was amended for additional work with funding coming from the recovery program. But no matter what bucket military funding comes from it still comes out of our pocket.

Birds-eye photo of Hangar 5110 - the only hangar that I can find with numbering on the outside. 5110 is not the largest hangar. 5112 is not labeled.

A response from the Ag Secretary regarding the ham contract for almost $1.1 million....

Quote:
Response to Drudge Item on Recovery Act Funding
Statement from Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack "Through the Recovery Act, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has made $100 million available to the states for The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), which acquires food that is distributed to local organizations that assist the needy – including food banks, food pantries, and soup kitchens.
The Recovery Act funds referenced in press reports allowed states to purchase ham, cheese and dairy products for these food banks, soup kitchens and food pantries that provide assistance to people who otherwise do not have access to food. This program will help reduce hunger of those hardest hit by the current economic recession.
The references to "2 pound frozen ham sliced" are to the sizes of the packaging. Press reports suggesting that the Recovery Act spent $1.191 million to buy "2 pounds of ham" are wrong. In fact, the contract in question purchased 760,000 pounds of ham for $1.191m, at a cost of approximately $1.50 per pound. In terms of the dairy purchase referenced, USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA) purchased 837,936 pounds of mozzarella cheese and 4,039,200 pounds of processed cheese.
While the principal purpose of these expenditures is to provide food to those hardest hit by these tough times, the purchases also provide a modest economic benefit of benefiting Americans working at food retailers, manufacturers and transportation companies as well as the farmers and ranchers who produce our food supply."
Sad thing is ham is for sale at Food Lion for 79 cents a pound retail....

Had you done so, you would have found this:

Modification Number: 0
Available Amount: $1,198,000
Signed Date: 2009-04-23

Modification Number: 3
Available Amount: $246,100
Signed Date: 2009-04-28

Date Signed 2009-04-28
Effective Date 2009-04-28

Looks like the contract only went for $246,100 to me.
No, a contract mod was performed to add the $246,100. This is generally performed when it is discovered that there will be cost overruns or if more work is added to the original scope. When you add the two together it equals the stated contract amount.

Yes - either the project was expanded or the contractor discovered an unforeseen circumstance that required more than the contract specified, and they requested a change order (modification) on the project. This is common on construction contracts, from residential to commercial to government.

So to replace a couple of doors the contractor is spending close to ONE AND A HALF MILLION DOLLARS....

No waste there.

For whatever reason, the contract was modified to add $200K+. It is possible that the government added more work to the contract leading the contractor to submit a new fee estimate to include the new work.

And it is possible that there are cost overruns. Whether it's the contractors fault or the governments fault is unknown.

That sounds too low. Any links? I'll check out Walmart pricing on frozen sliced ham this afternoon.

It's more than a couple of doors. And just one door could flatten your house.
