The contract referred to above is also with AFCO Techonologies, but it was signed this past April for repair and replacement of aging on-base natural gas mains. The work will not be completed until at least January 2010 and is providing Lord knows how many jobs.
I'll take a stab at some simple math to see if I can quantify your statements:

$1,444,100 (OP)
- 444,000 (Saganista)
$1,000,100

Recovery.gov says it's door repair. Saganista says door repair and gas-main repair. So it sounds like after the door is fixed, there is roughly $1M left for gas main repair. Under Saganista's theory, $1M should provide "Lord knows how many jobs." If $1M provides "Lord knows how many jobs," then shouldn't $787 Billion provide "Even the Lord himself can't count that high" number of jobs?

I think you know the answer to that, and I think you know it's not working.

As dozens of military bases have been closed in the past decades,I would think there might be a surplus of used doors...even hangar doors for a C-130.

As to the guess in the link,it could be that or just as likely the fedgov. overpaying as it almost always does for EVERYTHING....

You would think spending THREE QUARTERS OF A TRILLION DOLLARS would indeed provide more jobs than we need....

Why are we all being so hateful....

I don't think you are idiots....this pisses me off to no end and we pretty well figured it would turn out like this...no oversight and the rich getting richer. It's the American way.

Sorry to say, none of the assorted clownies will have any interest in what is actually happening. Good to see that some do, though...

It was a joke...the government has ALWAYS been overcharged or swindled throughout history...it just is on a MUCH grander scale nowadays.

It comes from there being a seemingly endless supply of money and it not belonging to 'anyone',it is just 'the government's'....

Ahhh,it is for TWO doors....well then, spending almost 1.5 milllion dollars makes total sense.

You must work for the fedgov.

Did anyone here click the 'view details' link at the bottom of the linked page?

Had you done so, you would have found this:

Modification Number: 0
Available Amount: $1,198,000
Signed Date: 2009-04-23

Modification Number: 3
Available Amount: $246,100
Signed Date: 2009-04-28

Date Signed 2009-04-28
Effective Date 2009-04-28

Looks like the contract only went for $246,100 to me.

Stumblin', fumblin', bumblin'...looks like the wheels have pretty much come off this cart. Time to push it off the road and dump it in the ditch with all those others...

Obama said he would oversee and stop this kind of wasteful spending. So when is this going to take place. So far we are still bailing out Wall st and ignoring main street.
