“Mr. Obama is in some ways presenting a much better face to the world. I wouldn’t call it a soft face, I’d call it a smart face,” Armitage replied. He then took a subtle dig at President Bush:

Think Progress » Armitage: Obama conducting foreign policy ‘in a more intelligent way’ than Bush.

I find it interesting that Obama and Bush really pursued similar objectives. The only difference was that Bush approached it like a child, trying to push his view on very different cultures and was then baffled when they rejected him (and us).

Obama, in contrast, seems to have a far more mature understanding of and respect for other cultures and is approaching them on their own terms. We have already seen doors open far wider and a great deal greater progress made. People, such as dscidcd will always see it was "weak" or "apologetic" (though he has never apologized, only pointed out our shortcomings - which to me takes far more strength and maturity than to run around like a teenage bully in a lockerroom).

God help me, but I'm always more than a little suspicious when a neocon offers a reasonable opinion in support of the President.

Armitage and Powell were literally the only two mildly sensible people in Bush's cadre of experts.

He has stated how hard Bush screwed the push for the last 4 or 5 years.

I think it was trigger happy Cheney calling the shots during the Bush administration.

I have never been a Bush supporter. As for Powell, I have no respect for fence sitters that go which ever the way the wind blows.

Please identify the "progress" that has been made by Obama in foreign policy.

I don't know how sensible they were. But I do know they both lacked integrity. If they felt that Bush's approach was wrong they should have resigned and spoken out publicly. That's what honorable people do, rather than work behind the scenes, leaking to reporters, to undermine their boss. Armitage, particularly, is a complete turd. It was he who leaked to Robert Novak Valerie Plame's identity. But he wasn't man enough to own up to it and let Scooter Libby twist in the wind for for his own malfeasance.
