Jumping in Pools: Sotomayor: Gun Ownership "Unconstitutional"

Quote:
Sotomayor explained that the Second Amendment to the Constitution did not actually afford individual citizens the right to bear arms, but only duly conferred organizations, like the military. Instead of making guns illegal, she argues that they have been illegal for individuals to own since the passing of the Bill of Rights.
Wow. This is a terrible choice in my opinion if she can truly believe this garbage.

Maybe not directly, but they may tax them and ammuntion into oblivion. There seems to be new anti-gun legislation from the various levels of government on an almost daily basis.
No reason to let our guard down with these kooks.

Obama's choice also believes that the Supreme Court makes/sets policy rather than interprets the Constitution. This document was never intended to be a "living document" but too many jurists think otherwise.

Time to learn how to reload and IGNORE whether the government says it's ok or not.

They can do it without starting a war simply by gradually limiting the legallity of carring one.

Claim a citizen cant carry one first in government buildings, schools, in complete cities, limit what type of guns one can own, then legal claims can be made that one can limit legal authority to carry guns in cars (not entitled to privacy in a car) etc.

No, they wont take them all at once, I'm not sure that rights are even being proposed to take them away at all, but its major news when a Supreme Court nominee thinks you have no right to own guns considering we dont know what other rights will they also oppose based upon a perceived flawed argument that the Constititution didnt mean "individual"

Sotomayer also believes in stari decisis so this whole train of argument is rather moot in light of Heller v District of Columbia.

Well, the second amendment does start with "well regulated militia". Why do you consider it garbage?

How can a nominee to the Supreme Court not actually believe in the Bill Of Rights as it is written?

Crazy.

But at least he nominated a woman of color.
