Iran has had a major split for decades between much of the public sentiment and the rulers. However, their process severely limits their ability to meaningfully change leaders.
supporting reformers is a way to bring real change to this region, because that way they are the ones who determine their country.
Supporting them by taking over like we did Iraq is a way to turn many who had no problem with us against us for being on their land orchestrating their government.

I have read reports that Ahmenajad (sp?) is becoming increasingly isolated even within the inner circles of power. Attacking Iran militarily and fueling national antagonism to the United States would be a huge step backwards, considering Iran has one of the most pro-western educated and liberal middle classes in the entire region.

I would hazard a guess we are doing just that, and have been for years.
well Democrats,Republicans and other certainly differ on some issues and to what our government is suppose to be but lets say the UN came in and took over, scraped our Constitution and set up a socialist government I hazzard to guess that even a certain amount of progressive liberals would get a bit peeved and decide to put a bullet in a UN soldier because of the fact that American soil had been taken over.

You mean like when we took out the Democratic reformer Mossadeq and let the Shah have power?
That was a big whoopsie, was it not.
