I agree and it's sad that this needs to be said but apparently this is where we're at as a society.
There was a triple homicide in Newton, MA last weekend. The guy who did it is 41 and bi polar and the mayor and many others are saying we failed this killer. Like it's everyone else's job to get everyone mental health help. Meanwhile few people do what they need to do to take care of themselves. Instead of saying, wow what an evil guy, bad apple, it's oh poor man was bi polar and killed 3 elderly people.
A severely bipolar person may have zero recognition that their actions are unacceptable. It's not a matter of being evil, it's a matter of having zero understand that their actions are bad. Bipolar people also tend to not want to take their medications or see a mental health professional, because being in the manic phase makes them feel good and they do not want that to stop.
So why would any college/university, and in this case TAMU in particular, automatically assume a student who scored a 5 (perfect score) on the AP Calculus BC exam hasn't mastered the material and must repeat the classes?
The engineering program at TAMU has around 8,000 students. The university has a pretty good idea of what it takes to succeed because they have large sample sizes to work with. The school discourages using AP credit for calculus because experience shows even those who had a 5 on Calculus BC are not prepared to skip that class at the college level.
In most states (majority of states), the classes you take at a community college will directly apply to the public universities in that state. What state was this?
I went to community college back in the day and got an associates degree. It was directly transferable to a private university in the same state and I was able to continue-on to get my bachelors at the time. I could have done the same with a public university, but it's a law in Florida that if you get an associates at a community college (in Florida)... it directly transfers to any of the schools in the state.
Community college was in one state and the university is in another state in my case. I had to retake a lot of them.
How long until our best colleges are filled with Chinese and Indians, who typically out score Americans on entrance exams, and white people call foul. There's billions of them trying to get into America colleges. And colleges make more money on tuition from international students. I see the flood gates opening.

I think we need to stop thinking that these elite colleges are our "best".
I printed out the majority opinion, approximately 140 pages. I will give my views more fully on reading.
