i don't think the largest country on earth, with vast mineral and fossil fuel riches and thousands of nuclear warheads, will ever become irrelevant like the small countries you used for comparison.
weakened and ostracized, sure. irrelevant, no way.
Remember the Soviet Union was once much bigger but now we Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Latvia, Georgia, Lithuania, Estonia, and other independent countries most of which directly oppose Russian political ideology.
Maybe ten years from now there will be an even smaller Russia and new countries called Chechnya, Ossetia, Tatartstan, Buryatia, Sakha, etc. hoping to join NATO.

Sure they have better SAMs now but even the old SA3s they would have faced in Western Europe were bad news enough for a slow aircraft 200' off the ground.
Sure there is, Afghanistan. US aircraft could operate with relatively impunity in Afghanistan as long as they operated above MANPADs altitude or at night.
This is not the 80s.Once precision guided munitions become the norm slow A-10s flying low to attack tanks in defended airspace became obsolete because you don't need to engage in that suicide mission anymore. In 2022 you fly high and fast using better sensors and smart munitions.

Yeah that was a cush job for them. That's not what they were designed for though. They were designed to counter a combined arms blitz by the Soviets against our forces which couldn't numerically match them in armor and men. Ukraine is a combat environment that is probably closer to the A10's original mission than any other it has flown in.
Ukrainian forces captured around 1000 square km b/t September 8-9 in Kharkiv Oblast. Ukrainian forces are likely clearing some disorganized Russian forces that have been caught in this rapid advance to Kupansk & the Oskil river.
Wonder if anybody on the security council will be "terminated"??
Nah, they'll just commit suicide by shooting themselves in the back of the head while simultaneously falling out the window on the 8th floor and landing face-first onto a cup of polonium tea.
Crimea will be tough, so that sounds optimistic to me.
Will shall see. If it doesn't happen, I'm sure a spin narrative is lined up like always. Right now, Europe is facing an energy crisis. They must give citizens hope that their efforts are not in vain and that the pain will soon end. This way they don’t start elected politicians that will be counter to war efforts. Reminds of the Afghanistan cover ups. The consistent “this offense will succeed," and "we only need X amount of time."
Many of these gains have yet to be officially confirmed.
After watching Rus advances of 1 km at a time for months....the rapidity of this advance is shocking...really. And you are right these gains have not been completely confirmed but both the Ukrainian officials and Russian milbloggers are pointing to something much worse for Russia.
I'm trying not to lap up every rumor circulating around Telegram, but the main challenge in establishing a clear picture of the situation in Kharkiv appears to be that Russian lines are collapsing faster than Ukraine can even advance and clear liberated areas. Astonishing.
