Avdiivka has fallen. It has been an expensive win for Russia. London based Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum points out the expense of the war - and the decline of Russia - has only begun. In their comments it is pointed out..
* Russia's economic decline is still in the early stages
* Talk of Russia's resilience ignores deep-seated issues in Moscow's finances
* Russia is losing huge amounts of valuable human capital
* Russia's global share of world purchasing power has fallen to under 2%, down from around 4% before 2008.
* Over half of Russian oil tankers are now idle at sea.
* Russian inflation grew 7.2% year-per-year in January, well above the nation's 4% inflation target LINK
My own comments, apart from the linked article:
Russia has painted itself into a corner. Before the war started they had a firm grip on Crimea. But now, because Uraine is so widely supported, Russia must take other portions of Ukraine and hold them or else they will lose Crimea to a newly equipped Ukraine.
Ukraine will not agree to a treaty, so Russians in Ukraine will always be fair game. If Russians leave, they will lose Crimea. If they stay their economy will continue to bleed. And all indications are, Russia will stay.
30% of the Black Sea Fleet destroyed; some 300,000 soldiers killed or seriously wounded; Oil refineries in Russia under attack; one million of their best civilians left the country; huge numbers of foreign investors gone, and engaged in a war they can not afford to lose against an enemy that will never forgive Russia for its atrocities.
Russia has created a tar pit that will eventually suck them under.

Ukraine will not get Crimea back.
You thought the spring offensive would work. Taking Crimea would be more difficult.
Not only have the Russians threatened to use nuclear weapons, they've threatened to use them even if Russia is only being attacked with conventional weapons.
The usage of nukes if, from what I understand, Russia faces an existential threat. As for nuclear weaponry in neighbouring Belarus, they're part of the same military alliance and the head of Belarus himself has asked for security guarantees from Russia. Poland is noted for engaging in a lot of sabre-rattling and even deploying thousands of troops to their border with Belarus.
This isn't the insanity of the American government humouring the ridiculous notion they can engage in a 'limited' nuclear war and not have it result in everyone winding up dead.

Good. Glad to hear that it's finally fallen.
No matter how expensive it was for Russia, it was a MUST thing, because finally the Ukronazi won't be able to shell the long-suffering Donetsk that they were shelling from Avdeevka all these years since 2014, killing civilians over and over again.
The audacity of this grifter to take potshots at us the U.S. taxpayer. Are the words "thank you" even in their vocabulary? We are tired of sending billions overseas where much of the money seems to disappear into the pockets of these very people pleading for our help.
Bloody enough already, our own borders are being flooded by illegal parasites, rapidly destroying our nation from within. And our tax dollars are going overseas? Christ almighty.
I hope I'm not revisiting this thread in 5 years with the meat grinder still turning.
Things ebb and flow.
Clearly the Russians not threatening nuclear war or whining about NATO means they're doing better.
P.S. Previously my level of whining meter was met with pro-Russian disagreement but lo and behold, they may suddenly agree with me...while saying that I previously misjudged their whining as VICTORY! LMao.
Nope. Current prediction is you guys maul each other into the stone age for another 3 years....it's awesome for so many other countries. (note, no smiley face, this is just savage repeating stupidity since 100 or heck...10,000 years ago.)
In 5 years, the Russian will have retreated back home like they did in the Afghanistan war.
Assuming Ukraine continues to get the help they need.
