Just general patriotism and "we are the best" sentimentality. Why is that alien to you? Where you never proud of your country or maybe city even?
Perhaps because I’m a fairly smug and secure individual, and I expect my countrymen to act accordingly.
If Americans really believe that the United States “is the best,” there should be no need to reaffirm that notion to oneself while being inside of these borders. I mean, what’s the point? No one cares if Americans think that the United States is the best, and you’re certainly not convincing anyone outside of this country of our greatness by chanting a bunch of jingoistic slogans. Makes you look like you’re not so sure when you’re constantly feeling the need to reaffirm your own greatness to yourself. It’s cartoonish.

Because Trump stands for and defends America and it's ideals. He loves the USA and so do his supporters. Anyone who does not understand that does not understand the Trump movement.
Trump supporters have built this impenetrable wall around them, part of the wall: Everything negative you hear or read about me is Fake News! A similar line that Hitler used.
Any policies the Democrats support is viewed as an attack on Christianity and this country's Judeo-Christian foundation, even if the policy has nothing to do with religion. As long as we continue to be divided as a society over this, things are going to be getting worse and worse.
