New variants of the virus will always eventually come in unless you plan on blocking the borders forever, and there is no evidence that any "new mutant" will waste all that effort and force us to start all over again except for your own false claims.

I am assuming this is not about work visas.

Likely 2 factors due to the fact that those in India that Afford travel to the USA are screened, tested, and likely not in contact with the general public that is suffering.

Second, those that do travel to the USA have DEEP Pockets and can afford to grease the wheels to keep lanes for those WITH ACCESS and Means.

The USA only gets the top end of India traveling here simply due to cost and access. Let's keep in mind that this will be the Second administration (Trump, Biden) to keep travel to India open. That has money and power written all over it.

You said this shouldn't be about politics and then you post this fantasy drivel...

Couldn't of said it better, especially the part you bolded. It was strange before with India's high risk from population density and the way COVID would spread, but now that India actually is the main world center for new COVID infections and all the dangerous mutants, defies all common-sense that the borders are still open for unrestricted travel from India. Agree it can't just be the woke cult in the Democratic party, it has to be pressure from Big Tech billionaires who are terrified of losing their supply of exploitable cheap labor on H1B visa they can use to lay off Americans or drive down wages. All about big money trying for bigger money. The Democrats under FDR would've slammed the door shut on this exploitation of American workers by fat cats. But now?

I don't think so. Over the past 10 years tech created their own offices over there so they didn't have to fight the H1B fight.

IBM is known as "India Business Machines" in tech circles. They all have offices over there and hire locally.

Take a gander....sprawling new buildings for MS, Oracle, Adobe, etc.
They aren't fighting the H1B fight anymore.

And right now with the Dems in power, the worst failures are upon them. It shouldn't be a partisan or ideology thing to ban flights from the country with the worst COVID crisis in the world right now, the USA has banned flights for more than year from Europe due to COVID. And now India is the world center for the very worst COVID crisis and dangerous new mutants, so it makes practical sense as public health to stop flights in from a hot-bed of the disease. For every country that's got COVID19 under control, it's done it by controlling it's borders tightly and preventing the virus and esp new mutants from coming in. It shouldn't be political to halt flights from India now, it should just be practical science and public health, that's why every other major country is banning flights from India for at least a month while these new mutants pose such a danger and the country has such high case-load. But unfortunately it is political in the United States and we're now the only country fail to do this. It shouldn't be "do this or do that" it should be "let's do everything we need to do" not mattering what the ideology or partisan slant is. But USA can't just do what the science and common-sense says, so we're stuck now as the only major country still take in thousands of people from India with these deadly mutants of COVID and whatever danger they're causing.
I agree that the flights from India should be banned, I really don't know why no action has been taken. They are running over 300,000 cases a day today at 350,000, crazy numbers. But there is a lot more that we can do as we are still running over 60,000 cases a day and we should beware of the variant. We need to increase the vaccination rate as fast as we can but looks like we are heading towards a surplus of vaccines and people refusing to take the shot..

This may be so, and I don't disagree with you certainly on high risk people taking the vaccine and particular the elderly-- benefits very likely outweight risks here. We're high risk ourselves and we're leaning to take it, but it's not so much the whether to take it but "when". It just seems futile to take an early version of vaccine when there's more evidence showing it doesn't work against the fastest rising mutants and we'd just have to take another in a couple months, or if the immunity wears off anyway. And then what? Is it dangerous to take a booster shot so soon after getting first one? (Our doctor eluded to this but we weren't quite sure). Are there long term effects that don't show up with one or two shots but do show up with a third? And what about this antibody mediated enhancing thing some of the experts are warning of? What's scary about India is it seems like the vaccinated people there are getting killed by their version of COVID just like unvaccinated are, and some of the media places are saying that the double-mutant has not only one mutation that's been shown to severely weaken effect of the antibodies, but a second one on top. Some dogmatic posters here like lieqiang get upset at even mentioning this fact but the danger doesn't go away from sticking our head in the sand, and it's part of why the US government's inaction here doesn't make any sense. From article--
The features of the double mutant variant are under investigation, but the L452R mutation is well characterized in U.S studies, according to Agrawal. It increases viral transmission by around 20% and reduces antibody efficacy by more than 50%, he said. .. This double mutant strain, first found in India, has begun troubling virologists everywhere.

“The B.1.617 variant has all the hallmarks of a very dangerous virus,” William A. Haseltine, a former professor at Harvard Medical School wrote in Forbes on April 12. “We must do all that is possible to identify its spread and to contain it.”

So even the Harvard guys now are saying this thing from India is deadly, and almost all the major countries are doing India travel ban, including UAE which is most vaccinated country but already running into trouble from other mutants and doesn't want to endanger everything with the India double-mutant. Where the hell is Biden on this? Nothing makes sense about this policy. How can Joe Biden in one of his first major speeches to the American people, make claims about such an aggressive and expensive public policy help US public health-- a big part of the $1.9 trillion Democratic stimulus package was claimed to be for COVID prevention-- but then turn around and do a policy this stupid, failing to make one of the easiest and least expensive policy decisions to protect the American people from COVID19, by halting flights in from the world's hardest hit country with mutants that are likely to infect and kill even vaccinated Americans?

It just doesn't make any sense. Unless like we're talking about in another thread, big corporations like Big Tech are now so powerful that they're able to basically decide US policy and block an obviously necessary travel ban on India to insure they keep getting their cheap labor on the H1B visa. Or maybe even Big Pharma wanting to make the crisis in USA even worse so they can make higher profits pushing more vaccines. Sound cpnspiratorial? Yeah, maybe, but then what else are Americans to think when the Biden COVID19 policy is so full of obvious contradictions like this?

Love that "India Business machines" reference, hadn't heard that before but it explains alot. IBM's quality has gone totally down the tubes in past few years, one of the companies I once contracted with now refuses to work with them anymore because all their computer code has to be completely re-written almost every time the IBM team sub-contracts to India. I still wonder if some corporations like to bring in India workers on the H1B for certain jobs, but doesn't surprise me that some are more about out-sourcing now entirely. Of course now we're seeing how that backfires.

Bad goes to worse.. just heard on radio that India has even more dangerous mutants than the ones they've already been talking about the news, tip of the iceberg. And apparently the mutations are coming faster than ever before so something weird may be up with virus in general now. My research skills have gotten worse but this was one thing i could find form one of the people they quoted in the radio broadcast

Welcome to Plutocracy.

When was the last time the American government worked in the interest of ordinary citizens?

Eisenhower? Truman? FDR?
