Honestly, this is about the worst case scenario we could have landed in. I would have much preferred that Donald just win a clear and decisive victory, much as I despise the guy, to what's going to happen to our nation and our foundational democratic institution of elections now.

Now we're hanging in the balance on razor thin margins, and each day that passes brings more people from each side looking for blood. Trump supporters, weaned on a steady diet of evidence-free conspiracy mongering from our President for years now, will never be convinced that there wasn't a fraudulent conspiracy in the event that their guy doesn't win, no matter what the data says. Radical sides of the left are now going to dig in their heels as well in return, launch counter-legal maneuvers, claiming trickery the other way around, and trying to spin things the other way. The longer this goes on, the uglier it will get.

Elections used to hold a sacred place in our collective trust. It wasn't controversial to agree that we count all the legally cast ballots in this nation (in person or mail in), determine the electoral votes off of those, and live with the outcome whether we liked it or not. Even with all the political spin from each side, we used to agree that we should trust in the outcome of our elections. No more, it seems.

Now, the norm is to pre-emptively claim fraud even before the election takes place. Now every outcome we don't like has a spin to try to favorably slice and dice: "stop counting there;" "count only here;" etc. And when one side shoves, the other will shove back.

No matter who wins, no matter if there ever is any evidence of fraud, there is now a toxic cloud over this entire process and the winners; and it will persist for many cycles to come. And no matter who wins, the losers are us, the American people. If we no longer hold to the sanctity and integrity of democracy's most foundational institution - voting - then we are truly untethered from our historical foundations, and whatever it is we're floating towards...it's not any viable form of representative democracy.

If there is evidence of fraud by Democrats or Biden, then of course it should be prosecuted, and of course the Presidency should go to Donald (or vice versa). Whoever wins, wins; and we look to the data to say who wins. That's the way it used to work in this country.

But if you love this country as you claim, then you should have an honest moment and tell yourself that it's ok if the other guy wins; and that we should not be cavalier about claims of fraud unless the evidence is truly there; and that we should not reach conclusions based on our personal biases. That's a simple step you can take today to put country above yourself and your party.

Looking at what's going on in this nation, and looking at the threads here lately, I fear we're too far gone for that.

Do you realize the democrats started it with Hillary and her Russian hoax all to hide what she was doing. Democrats tortured President Trump for 4 years and now we are suppose to say ok we will let it go. He was impeached fraudently...his wife was called names and a porn star..how low can you go.

Yet you want us to accept Biden and become one country again. There is so much anger and hurt...you can thank Hillary Clinton for that. hold her accountable would be a start

I'm inclined to agree. If we'd just given this crazy tyrant 4 more years, that wouldn't be as damaging to the US as what he's doing - planting the seed that the election process in the US is fraudulent, and maybe 20% of the population now actually believes that.

THAT is damage.

Had we all just sucked it up, and soldiered on for 4 more years with this monkey with a knife, I think we'd be in a better place.

His followers don't seem to be able to discern truth.

We have a president who trafficked in alternative facts from day 1 (inauguration crowd size).

It's no surprise he's still going with lies and baseless conspiracies.

I'm in the center.

And my eyes cross reading your statement.

I would rather have had Biden win decisively (Lord help us) than to be in this mess. Half of the country has lost faith in the system because of the alleged vote fraud, aka cheating. IMO there is no doubt some occurred. How much we will see.

But the main takeaway is this: half the country has lost faith in the system.

With all due respect, you don't come across as being 'in the center'........

I believe there is a good chance there is a lot of fraud continuing to play out in this election. Like way more than usual. You'd have to be a naive rube to believe otherwise. The left feels they have a mandate to win at any cost to get rid of the bad orange man who angers them so, and likely feel that any level of cheating/manipulation they can get away with is justified to that end. Ie; "we're doing a bad thing but for the best of intentions." 2016 was likely the last semi-legit national election we will ever have.

You know it and I know it. Go crawl back into your hole and miss me with your noise if you can't deal with reality.

Sorry but it started with Hillary if Democrats had accepted Trumps win that would have changed everything. Instead they treated him horrible for 4 years...so what do you expect us to do too Biden...accept him lmao. We expect him to be arrested for taking money from China, his son Hunter needs to go to jail
