Middle schools? 6th grade? seems a little crazy to encourage this stuff so young.

Middle school?! Isn’t that like 6th grade? Half the girls don’t even have their period yet.

Made available, not issued to them or encouraging sex. Trying to prevent abortions and protect students from STDs. Which is already happening. The "abstinence only" messaging does not work and many parents are in denial.

And yet middle school kids are having sex. Ignoring that fact will not make it go away.
Educating is not encouraging. Those that are going to have sex are going to do so with no encouragement needed, hormones and peer pressure are all the encouragement that is needed.

Exactly. It doesn't need to be in your face or encouraged, but if someone is sexually active and has "abstinence only" parents who won't provide them condoms this is a good second option to prevent STDs.

No, it sends a message that it’s acceptable for 12- and 13-year olds to have sex. True that the kids might do it anyway (most won’t at that age), but is the teacher emphasizing that is is WRONG to have sex that young?

We had condoms available at my high school and I never went and got any. I did end up having sex before graduation, but I certainly wasn't doing it because there were condoms at the nurse's office. I don't know anyone else who did, either. This is a non-issue.

I don't have a problem making these things available. Like it or not, kids are having sex. I'd want them to have realistic options for safer sex in such cases.
