That's how stupid the "it's not a flu" argument is.
Close, but wrong. That's how stupid making comparisons to the flu is.

Asking why we treat a distinct, novel virus differently from another virus is nonsensical.

I haven't been in many years. I haven't been to the Drive in over the last couple of seasons.

I'm a movie buff but it sure is easier to plop on the couch to watch one.

It would be sad if the cinemas closed but it is understandable why they would.
Ticket sales have been declining for 18 years.

Pop up drive ins have happened in some areas, this summer. They mostly show kid friendly movies.
This is temporary and will end when the weather changes.

Had the first frost Sunday night in my neck of the woods.

We went to movies all the time. It's something we've dearly missed this year.

Watching at home can't replicate the experience without spending 10s of thousands of dollars on equipment/seating/lighting/etc.

Movie theaters have experienced the same decline as most enclosed malls and retail establishments within.
Yep. The mall near me has many empty stores. It's even worse since Sears closed if Penneys goes too the mall will probably collapse.

Mall and movie theaters used to be the places for teens to meet and socialize and spend money and work after school jobs. Now they prefer using cell phones and sitting in their rooms.

You can get a good setup for as low as $10,000. Yes, if you want a more perfect experience, you're at $50,000.

That being said, most people are willing to compromise. An 80" LED and a standard mid to high end audio setup will run you much less than $10,000.

i'm willing to bet there are more people with CRT's today than 80" TVs.
I wouldn't bet on it. I was surprised to discover you can buy an 86" TV at Best Buy for only $1899.99. Or a 82" one for $1599.99.

Right, I know you can spend less. For my work commute I could buy a scooter or I could buy an AMG Mercedes.

An 80" LED and mid range home theater system is not apples/apples to going to the movies. Which was precisely my point.

I'd rather watch the latest MARVEL movie in IMAX than on my home set up.

so many buisness will change thanks to the shut down. outdoor movie screens are coming back in style. one is opening up here in West Chicago, IL (30 miles west of chicago) it was closed down some years ago. very popular in the 1960's.

offices wont be using their expensive office buildings downtown, since office workers can use Zoom meetings for the most part. Hotels and airlines wont be used as a result and that will change. Restaurants and fast food and food trucks that benefited from hotel visitors will be affected. lucky if and when restaurants will ever open to 100% capacity.

so its the way things are naturally progressing.
