All of us who made sacrifices by social distancing should be proud to have such a visible impact on this crisis.

Dr. Fauci Says US COVID-19 US Deaths Could Be As Low As 60K After Warning "Millions Could Die"
The White House estimates have ranged from 15 to 3 000 000, so I doubt anyone takes them seriously anymore.

You dont know that.

The virus wont go away, just like the flu never went away and we can't hide from it forever. The flu comes back every year to kill 70 000 Americans, but we are used to it and accept the fact that it kills lot of elderly, and those with pre-existing conditions, and sure enough, with Corona 90% of the people who are hospitalized have pre-existing conditions like hypertension, diabetes or lung diseases.

Wel, that’s the weird thing, isn’t it? If these measures work as intended, of course it’ll leave you feeling like we made a big kerfuffle out of nothing.

This thread is a prime example of why the models were so high originally. We have a lot of ignorant and selfish people in this country.

Imagine we were proactive, actually had test ready much earlier and quarantined from the start?

Fauci had no idea what this virus would do. Not a criticism of him, just the truth. We've been avoiding people with any malady if we believe it to be contagious for centuries. Whenever there's a crisis, the masses look for a savior and a satan. This CV is no different. yawn

Trying to think like a sociopath (Trump), I've got an theory.

I do remember when Fauci and Surgeon General Jerome Adams said we could see 250,000+ deaths. I wonder if Trump asked his task force members to publicly to always use the "high" numbers when discussing death tolls, so that if corona deaths are much lower, Trump would be able to claim a "major win."

This sounds sick and disgusting, but again, I'm trying to think like Trump, who is all about "winning" and making it look like he somehow magically did something himself to have the death toll be much lower than predicted.

Fauci is a fact-based guy and is not a Trump appointee, so he is not forced to lick Donny's boots. But I 100% believe that Jerome Adams would say whatever Trump told him to say.

I sense disgust not enough people died in your post.

Dr. Fauci: "The Response Of Trump Admin Has Been Impressive, I Can't Imagine Anybody Could Be Doing More"

I agree Fauci is independent.

B.S.

Most of the people in my area are ignoring the shutdown nonsense, the vast majority aren't wearing masks, people are going out and about as usual to grocery stores and drive-thru eateries. I suspect most Americans are doing this as well.

The white coat doomsayers are being proven wrong -- of course they tried to make it all out to be doom & gloom so they could get more federal $$$$ for their medical research and institutions. Many of these doctors and medical "experts" are nothing but mouthpieces for big pharma.

No, the models were NOT wrong.

Say my financial adviser tells me that, based on my current retirement savings, I will run out of money by the time I am 75. So I increase the amount I am putting into my 401k each month, and reduce my spending. Now he says I will be solvent until age 85. Was his original projection wrong?

Agree, feltdesigner, but getting people to quarantine RIGHT NOW is nigh on impossible - asking them to do it 6 weeks ago would have met with minimum success.

Having a quick test ready would have been a fantastic game changer - but it only worked (say, in South Korea) in conjunction with other tools, mainly a tracking system and enforcement mechanism and a population that could follow instructions. Never gonna happen here.
Next best thing, then - weeks ago - Assume You Have It. Stay Home. Assume your neighbor has it too. Avoid that guy.

Pretty much what we're doing - except for the selfish folks. 100M people have high blood pressure. 35M have diabetes and 25M have asthma. If you think it's about "really sick people" - you're talking about half the country. Look around. Do your friends and family all seem "really sick?" Half of them are, from COVID's point of view.

Regular flu is seasonal, there's a vaccine, there is some natural immunity, and it burns itself out every year. COVID has none of these things. Anyone that doesn't understand that by now is intentionally making this situation worse.
