No, because so far UK itself (their political bickering) has foiled her own attempts to leave. EU has not prevented it.

The EU isn't stopping the UK from leaving, the UK can leave whenever it decides to.

The EU put the backstop in place whereby the UK would staying the customs union and was unacceptable as the UK would not be able to make independet trade deals.

Parliament voted aganst this on three occasions.

The current deal does not have a backstop and takes the UK out of the Customs Union, it therefore has much greater support.

Britain will be leaving, as Johnson's current deal will get through even if it requires an election and change of Parliament first.

The title of this thread made my day.

It seems like a certain segment of the US population is still living in 1865.

Nigel is very good at clearly explaining things. He sounds very positive here.

Enmeshed is a common term in dysfunctional family discussions. The UK let itself get enmeshed. Regaining independence rips out some deeply planted hooks, and may rip out some large chunks, such as Northern Ireland and Scotland. That is a standard course for former empires that become subject to rising powers.

Update from the front lines from my Brexiteer friend:

55 MPs now standing down, inc many leading Remainers. But some Cons Remainers being allowed back in Cons. Party before country!! Some of Boris's true colours emerging.

But now a big problem for real Brexiteers. Many general population "just want it done". Boris's Treaty is just a slightly better BRINO than May's, but they have not been told that and think that Boris means Brexit and will vote for him.
We know the truth, and want support for the Brexit Party. Sparing details, Boris has refused to consider a deal where together we stand only where Boris's Cons cannot win but are strong Leave areas. If we stand without such a deal, Boris will not win overall as the Leave vote will be split, or at least we get enough so that Corbyn The Unthinkable actually wins! (There are tactical Remainer cross party groupings being formed.) We must get out the truth about Boris's Treaty and convince so that polling numbers will force Boris to a deal.

As an active member I have some info on our policies and where standing, targets etc, but must not discuss yet. Very sensitive. Need UK detailed knowledge to appreciate anyway.

Another update (hard to keep up)

The party’s prospective candidates were sent an email yesterday telling them: “Message from HQ... IMPORTANT. Please go DARK on social media. DO NOT respond to any questions about where we are standing, what the strategy or plan is from now. Things will be made clear very soon.”

The party is expected to announce its strategy at an event in Westminster on Friday amid speculation that some candidates could defect to the Tories if they are not allowed to stand. There are also reports that donors to the party do not want it to risk unseating Boris Johnson, knowing the only alternative to Mr Johnson is Jeremy Corbyn.

On Wednesday night Mr Farage told The Telegraph suggestions his party would only field 20 candidates were “utter rot”, adding: “I’ve said nothing about it to anybody and frankly there’s no rush. “I’m working it through at the moment and will announce it in good time.”

Nonsense. The UK has invoked Article 50. They can leave.

Without a deal, that will be bad for the EU and worse for the UK, but there's no way for the EU to force the UK to stay.
