That's funny. Or sad, I guess.

The reinventing of the wheel, at massive taxpayer expense - that was Constellation and is now SLS. Y'know, the very program that was canceled under Obama and its ill-begotten offspring that the Senate forced though, because the pork must flow..

Northrop, Boeing, Thiokol etc. - all of the companies who'd gotten so very used to that delicious Space Shuttle money - maneuvered themselves into the Shuttle replacement, assisted of course by the biggest roadblock to US spaceflight, Senator Shelby, who considers NASA an Alabama jobs program.

They have spent billions of dollars learning that you can't just Kerbal together a rocket from the Shuttle parts bin. Want to talk accomplishments? With SpaceX launching Falcon 9s and Falcon Heavies at a fraction of the price of the traditional players, they - for all their vaunted expertise - haven't got a rocket. (And no, Ares-1X doesn't count.) Their engine technology is 70s. And their SLS masterpiece will be too expensive to fly, we're looking at cool billion per shot.

Cool CAD/CAM and renderings, though.

The JPL crew is known to be pretty much hippies. Those were the guys who refused mandatory drug testing by simply pointing out that they could find much better paying jobs in the private sector, and that finding a replaceemnt driver for the Mars Rover could turn out to be - difficult. Probably more anarchist than anything else, but they'd flip Trump the bird 7 days a week.

He wont make it to Mars. The black hole will be anxious to pull him inside until it gets a taste of that vile, creature whereupon it will eject him from the rear, hurling the bad, man orange into the sun.

Strange that he trusts NASA to go to the Mars but doesn’t trust their predictions regarding climate change on our own planet.

This is pretty much the case. ULA had no idea what was about to hit them...

The folks at JPL just need a can or two of Krylon Gold to properly paint one of these....and then Trump would hop aboard.
