Some clarity on this democratic socialism thing.

Quote:
While it is true that the Scandinavian countries provide things like a generous social safety net and universal healthcare, an extensive welfare state is not the same thing as socialism.

What Sanders and his supporters confuse as socialism is actually social democracy, a system in which the government aims to promote the public welfare through heavy taxation and spending, within the framework of a capitalist economy. This is what the Scandinavians practice.

Huh?

Socialism is a governing policy.

Capitalism is an economic policy.

This isn't new.

Fee.org is a FANTASTIC resource for learning about free-market capitalism.

Just like Sweden isn't socialist, Obama wasn't a socialist. Neither one has/had the State control the means of production.

This is getting silly.

One thread recently we had somebody saying Sweden (and other Scandinavian countries) aren't socialist. Now we have somebody telling us they're socialist, but not a model to follow.

Can people please make up their minds? Thank you.

Does this sound socialist?

Quote:
But Sweden has many characteristics that don't fit into the socialist stereotype.

For example, Sweden is one of the world's most market-oriented countries, and has nationalized few companies. Production is run by the private sector, and the bank system is the second-most efficient in the world, according to a 2008 survey by the World Economic Forum. Sweden is also a fervent free-trade champion, which partly explains how companies like Volvo, IKEA and H&M have been able to grow into leading multinationals...
