We had a thread yesterday about the 'deep state.' One after another liberal poster stepped forth to deny and deride even the existence of a 'deep state.' One compared it to the 'chem trail' conspiracies. Another said that it was tin-foil hat territory. The denial posts were long on derision and short on facts. The thread was unfortunately closed before resolution.
She and her husband owned a small manufacturing company in Texas. They had been in business since around 1990, with zero contact from feds, other than filing annual tax forms.
In July, 2010, she filed for 501(c)(4) status with the IRS for an organization she called 'True the Vote.' That winter, the FBI showed up at her shop asking questions about a group member. In Jan 2010, the IRS showed up to audit her business. In 2011, the FBI made four further inquiries. In Feb 2012 the BATF showed up to do an unscheduled audit. The company had a license to make gun parts, which they had never used. In July 2012 OSHA showed up to audit them. They were fined $17,500 for violations such as not having the correct kind of seat belt on a forklift. In Nov 2012, the Texas state version of the EPA showed up.
After three years she still had not received tax exempt status for 'True the Vote.'
Twenty years with zero contact, and then about 2 years with about 10 instances of contact? Incidentally 'True the Vote' was prominently on the radar of several Democrat congress critters, including Elijah Cummings, who was closely involved in the investigation of the IRS and Lois Lerner.
Do deniers seriously expect us to believe that this was all coincidental? That would seem to me a much bigger leap of faith than to posit the existence of a 'deep state' in some form. Or do the deniers out there have some other plausible explanation for what happened to Catherine Engelbrecht?
Look...
If you apply for tax free status for a shady "educational" organization that's actually just a right wing political group, you should expect to be questioned on it. You should expect the feds to require you to justify your request.
What exactly is the deep state and what is your evidence that this is apart of it ?
Sounds like to me some Lady from text founded 2 watchdog groups aimed at making sure the black and latino vote was suppressed and then got political(which would indeed violate the tax exempt status)
From reading, it does sound like Ms. Engelbrecht engaged in behavior calculated to prevent lawfully registered voters from voting, by filing numerous voter registration challenges, causing the local voter registration officials to send out notices to said voters that their right to vote has been challenged, entailing said voters to have to prove their right to vote.

So this is probably the 5th post on this thread clearly showing why this woman and her organization and company were targeted. I didn't know about it but I've now read the links presented and it seems clear to me why she was targeted.
Yet, Trump supporters (I won't blame all republicans) either refuse to believe it, have not commented, won't read the links, or won't admit it. What's the point of this thread?

The existence of a "deep state" has been acknowledged for so long that the BBC was doing a sitcom about the deep state in the UK all the way back in 1980. You can read acknowledgment of the existence of the "deep state" in publications like the WaPo and HuffPo.
Oh, Lord! That outfit? For one thing Catherine Engelbrecht and her coterie of fellow racists who work hard at voter intimidation and voter suppression in districts that have a high percentage of minority voters . . . .
She's in Texas. Every district has 100% minority voters.

How can you not understand that the linked articles prove the OP's point? People in the government conspired to persecute her. The fact that you think the persecution was justified is irrelevant. No, I take that back. Your attitude reflects their attitude that the government is not accountable to the people.
So she was caught trying to set up a non-profit for political reasons (against the law). Then some other stuff was found once the investigation started.
You would not want law enforcement to ignore other laws being broken.
Kind of like what is going on in the Russian investigation.
