Not exactly. Every state has different laws and rules governing property, inheritance, who is a member of a household and so forth. Even the federal government treats tax issues differently for married couples. Marriage cuts to the chase on these matters. U.S. v. Windsor was a tax issue.

When gay marriage was approved, the sun still rose in the east and life went on.
