But every time a Republican talks about "unprecedented obstruction" I just want to scream "Merrick Garland!" in their face.
Even though good old Joe Biden advocated doing exactly what was done with respect to Garland when Obama was elected.... So, it's great when it's YOUR side but not so much when it's the other?
Another thing, why is it that the Democrats just loved Gorsuch just a few years ago when he was up for the lower bench but now, well, he's somehow evil?
It is ungovernable but the only way to make the point is to give it to the GOP as badly as they gave it to us. Just make their lives miserable every single day. They were not punished by voters for doing it so by all means, give it to them in kind. Already we've seen that the executive orders they complained about under Obama are perfectly fine with Trump so we won't be hearing about that anymore. Now it's the Gorsuch vote. Just torture them every day and if by some miracle Dems gain control in Trump's or Pence's last year, don't give any Supreme nomination a vote. McConnell will just have to take it. Just like McConnell will have to take it if the government shuts down. Just keep a tally and give it back double.
Yeah, that's the way to move our country forward and do the best for the people...
IMO whether the Dems did that then or not, the GOP would not change their actions now. The GOP was doing anything they could to cripple Obama. The GOP will likely go the nuclear option and if history is any factor, the Dems will use it against the GOP down the road. It is what it is. The Dems are fully aware of this and figure, if they get a more liberal judge on the court later, the GOP can't complain, especially if they were the ones to invoke the nuclear option first. And the GOP knows that too.
So, you think that Congress is there to just rubber stamp whatever the president wants? While it's Congress's job to slow things down and moderate,discuss/debate legislation things have gotten way out of hand over the years and it's now turned into an "us vs them" take no prisoners and give no quarter partisan fight. BOTH sides have now devolved into what amounts to "war footing". If Dems and Reps were countries they'd be shooting at each other.
Anyone from either side who cheers this on had better think long and hard about if they want this country to survive as a representative democracy...
Gorsuch conduct during his hearing was unacceptable. Refusing to answers Senators questions was downright unprofessional and scripted. Gorsuch is a JOKE and should NOT be confirmed.
Seems to me Gorsuch took his interview cues from the Ginsberg hearings. His answers pretty much mirrored hers.
So, let's see...
Merrick Garland: The Biden rule.
Neil Gorsuch: The Reid rule.
Gorsuch's hearing answers: The Ginsberg example.
Before one throws mud, it pays to be sure of the source!

I can tell you have not watched a confirmation hearing in over 25 years. They are always like like.
So this is an interesting aspect of what could happen if/when the GOP goes nuclear. Democrats can demand a cloture vote on everything which will eat up tons of time moving forward:
"In November 2013, Senate Democrats invoked the nuclear option to lower the confirmation threshold for lower court and executive branch nominees. In response, over the next 13 months, Republicans forced Democrats to file cloture on 154 nominees, and they forced 131 cloture votes."
"One reason Republicans forced so many cloture votes—even though the overwhelming majority of the nominees were not controversial—is that each time cloture is invoked, the Senate Rules require that the Senate expend a set amount of post-cloture time, during which no other business can be conducted, unless every Senator agrees to yield back that time. So the Republican response used hundreds and hundreds of hours, and Democrats lost this precious Senate floor time in which they could not advance their agenda."

Nope, no partisan hacks there.....None at all...
I don't suppose you have Joe Biden's exact quote from 25 years ago, besides since when do republicans listen to him? Anyway ,statements do not equate to actual actions.
Why did republicans love Garland until he was nominated.
It is ironic that rule of 60 can be changed with 51 vote simple majority. Surprised no one did it in all these years.
Actually Clarence Thomas was approved with less than 60 (54?), the democrats did not filibuster, several democrats voted for him.
