I wondered as the night began what would happen if Trump won: would the punditocracy, the media, the political class, the academics, etc. come out with a big, "oops, man did we have a blind spot, guess we are not in touch with a huge part of the country; guess that we talked down to a lot of people who ended up not liking that, and who don't like who WE are and what we represent"........in short, a "mea culpa".

And out of the fifty or so people I listened to last night (over many hours), only 2 (TWO) came close: Mark Shields and Tom Brokaw (I know, I couldn't believe it was them, either). It was only brief statements, and it was kind of half-hearted. But at least they took their blinders off for a few seconds.
Kudos to them.

Lol...Tom Brokaw hit a nerve last night. It was amusing listening to him pizz off the other people on-air last night when he put on his newsman-emeritus guise and started lecturing them...and they weren't happy about it. He was the only one who didn't seem particularly surprised last night.

The same thing happened when Mark Shields on PBS gave a thirty second explanation of how this happened......unvarnished and honest. He said basically what I put in the OP...."the Establishment has only itself to blame, including us". Judy Woodruff almost came unglued and was so mad at him.....she quickly changed the subject to some particular *****-fest point that she wanted to make about Trump.

I saw an interview with Glenn Beck where he said something similar. He said that the Republicans and Democrats had better wake up and pay attention to the people, because the people were saying that they weren't happy with the current state of our Government. Because this year while many voted against Hillary, 63% (IIRC) were not happy about voting for Trump.

It goes back to a statement I made in another thread earlier. It should speak volumes that the majority would risk a hail mary pass to a loose cannon than have to spend another 4 years dealing with the government we have in place now.

Beck is one who has ALOT of atoning to do.......part of the Establishment who thinks they know everything.
