From what I read, the officer forgot to put blanks in his gun.

Not sure there is a crime here or not. FL has their own laws and cops aren't usually subject to regular laws anyway. I could easily see this as being just a training accident where no charges are filed though - cop or not.

It's you and only you that is responsible to make sure a gun is safe you are handling.

This is a tragic accident but those suggesting murder chargers are being absurd. People make mistakes all the time and if you want to start holding people criminally responsible for accidental deaths you better start building a lot more prisons.

You are not using live gun in such a training. You are never never never point a live gun at somebody. This is the basic of the basic.

I remember the Youtube video of the dingus cop who was doing a gun safety demonstration at a school and the gun discharged in the classroom. He was fired but luckily no one was hurt. Its a monumental screw up and the police department will have to pay big time and the cop in question will never wear a badge again or own a gun again in any case.
Sorry, no. Every gun owner, civilian or police, is taught the same things-every gun is always loaded (meaning YOU assume it's loaded until YOU physically verify that it is clear) and-never point a gun at something you're not willing to destroy. Previous poster was right-whoever allowed a functioning firearm rather than a "practice weapon" to be used for this demo is responsible and should face manslaughter charges.

Sorry, but NO. This was carelessness that reachs a criminal level. While I agree its not murder, the manslaughter charge is pretty much the go to charge for this sort of thing. This is not a accident. This is criminal negligence.
