GOOD NEWS !

King Willem-Alexander delivered a message to the Dutch people from the government in a nationally televised address: the welfare state of the 20th century is gone.

Dutch King Willem-Alexander declares the end of the welfare state - Europe - World - The Independent

"The classic welfare state of the second half of the 20th century in these areas in particular brought forth arrangements that are unsustainable in their current form."

For those who snark that the king is a drain on the peons, reconsider:

Netherlands population (2015) : 16,919,139
King’s salary 825,000 euros is roughly 0.047 euros per capita.
Other expenses, of 100 million euros, is roughly 5.91 euros per capita.
Total cost for the monarchy : 5.95 euros per capita.
. . . . . . .
Dutch minimum wage = € 9.02 an hour

It's pretty clear:

In its place a "participation society" is emerging, in which people must take responsibility for their own future and create their own social and financial safety nets, with less help from the national government

Socialism is always dependent on other peoples money.

When that runs out..........Greece is a prime example. Kudos to the Dutch for finally seeing the light.

correct on the socialism. Unbelievable that many in the US think it could work there even though it always fails. The US govt is 240 years old. Can anybody name a socialist govt that lasted say, 50 years? Anyone?

Funny, isn't it?

Liberals embrace an unsustainable, failed policy that has never worked anywhere (with the exception of a few ethnically homogeneous nordic nations).

Somehow, they think it would be different in the US!

The End of Dutch Socialism? (minimum wage, salary, independent, cost)
Not exactly. They are trimming costs, but they will still have all socialist services of a typical European welfare state with universal health care, taxpayer funded education etc.

Pretty much all Western European countries have survived far longer than that, and Holland will be very much a 'socialist' country into the future. All European countries go through expansions and contractions of social benefits, but the key elements always stay in place.

Not only that, but it is from people who are not working where you almost always find violent offenders and shooters.
We need to end our own welfare state for the sake of peace.

So the King runs UK, Germany is run by the Kaiser and Feudal Lords, France by Napolean....same government construct?

The Socialist states evolved mostly after WWII. They can sustain their programs with continuous growth in populations and economic growth. I'm sure the mind-set hasn't changed to continue the system with some refinements but consider Greece as the future of these systems. Not to mention the demographic shift is going to completely change their structures....once the majority changes, they'll have to go to the Mosque to get their social benefits.
