I highly doubt that would prevent another Ferguson. Ferguson is not just a movement against police killing black people. It is a movement against police and policing. It will end with nationwide contraction of police forces coupled with radical changes in how policing is done. In particular, the inevitable outcome is depolicing, where neighborhood beats and patrols are ended and police only respond to write reports. This is what so many protesters are demanding and is clearly the long term goal of the strongest protest groups nationwide.

End result. Far less people killed by police. But far more crime and far more people killed by people who are not police. It is already happening in St Louis, where police are cutting back on patrolling and the murder rate, as well as the violent crime and property crime rates, have spiraled upwards rapidly since August to 10 year highs.

That is how we will prevent another Ferguson.

What the hell are you talking about? What protesters & groups are demanding police not patrolling for public service? The protesters are demanding the END to police taking black lives, the killing of unarmed black men, a stop to racial profiling and discrimination!!!

Institutional racial is a problem, and the righteous are demanding change!!!

The PLP, Revcom, TribeX/LostVoice, NBPP, and RgB Rebels have all made this demand. They are by far the strongest protest groups in number as well as the most vocal groups in Ferguson right now.
Even the central demand list at the demands #ferguson includes both a reduction in police forces (Demand 5D) and an end of neighborhood beat policing ("hotspot policing", Demand 4G). This list is supported by both Hands Up United and the Don't Shoot Coalition, representing over 70 smaller protest groups between them. Both of the younger protester representatives on the Ferguson Commission have openly advocated for reducing police forces and ending neighborhood policing.
(I will add that eliminating fines and warrants for non-violent offenses is another significant section of the demands, which is essentially what depolicing is: ending enforcement against non-violent crimes, especially quality of life crimes.)

What you miss, and they get, is that depolicing has been the only effective way to reduce racial profiling and police killing. No other strategy has ever succeeded. It is what London did, what Canada did, what Seattle and Cincinnati did. It works and it is the sole strategy that does work. It just has side effects.
