They say it makes him look like an ape. I'm not so sure I agree. I have seen hundreds of political cartoons with facial and other features greatly exaggerated as a caricature. Bush looked more like an ape in just about every cartoon I saw of him.
I think his response matters more than his cartoon.
"I’ve been doing this since 1987 and I’ve earned the right to not be branded a racist "
no one ever earns the right not to be branded a racist, especially if they do something that is indeed racist.
that being said, its a cartoon people... And that being said, it does not over exaggerate Obama's features because Obama looks nothing like that in anyway. it was a complete re imagining of the President, so it isnt as simple as some of the defenders of this cartoon are saying.
I think the problem may be that it's not a good or funny cartoon. I have noticed that good comedy is rewarded, whereas poor comedy is frowned upon and even called "racist". I think that's what happened with Don what's his name. Calling someone a "nappy headed hoe" is just not funny. If he came up with something with some tact, I think it would have been better.
When I first saw it I thought it looked more like Homer Simpson than Barrack Obama. Fitting for their about equal mental capacity, but they aren't physically similar in appearance. So it was a bad likeness but I didn't see anything inherently racist and it didn't look like an ape. Maybe a cave man which Homer Simpson does vaguely resemble. Not a good likeness.
It makes him look like he should be on The Simpsons. Enough with the race card.
