If you have a significant other and take a "selfie" of yourself and send it to him/her or you make a movie together, you are stupid. There should be no law against stupidity here. If you have a nasty break up and the slighted partner puts it on the internet, your tough loss. Don't take pictures you don't want other people to see. Maybe even the whole world.

There was a thread on this a while back.

Unlike our drug laws, there is an actual crime when "Revenge Porn" takes place.

Do you try to blackmail or belittle your exes with this tactic?

My thoughts about the OP exactly. Who in their right mind would fear criminalzing this except folks who might have considered doing it-a/k/a as Sadists.

The internet is forever.
The internet is world wide.
If you don't want your pictures to appear forever, world wide, do not take them!
If you would not want your mother or future spouse to see them, don't take them.
If you think you might run for public office someday, avoid having any such pictures taken.
Yes, the subject has been covered repeatedly. Yes, it is getting tiresome. Yet, in spite of all the publicity, there are people out there in the wide world who go blithely along, taking and posting these kinds of pictures, then crying when they get misused.
Let's face it, it IS a self-inflicted injury!
Just don't do it. Problem solved!

Here's an idea: $1000 fine AND a year in jail for taking any such picture. If there are no pictures, there can be no "revenge porn"!

LOL, typical. The ones railing against this law are the same ones who incessantly cry about their privacy being violated by the government.

There is no crime. It may be the basis for a civil lawsuit but not a crime. Hurt feelings or embarrassment are not crimes. Especially when you gave the other party the material to use. As for me, I have no ex. I have been married to the same woman from the get go. Besides, how would such a law be enforced? If you live in a state where it is not against the law and she lives in a state where it is against the law and the server the pictures are on is in another state, who is going to try and untangle that legal mess? Also, I would assume they would have to prove that it was actually you that put the pictures on the internet. Unless you admit it or do it from home, how are they even going to prosecute that? All you have to do is say "I lost that flash drive a few months ago and have no idea where it is".

Blackmail? Yes. But belittling someone is not a crime. The person who took the photo is the owner of the copyright, so too bad. Dumb enough to let someone take pictures of you naked don't be surprised of the results.

So far in 2 states the picture taker , should he/she post it elsewhere, has committed a crime. I hope other states follow suit.

The government is the biggest SUPPLIER of personal information to the internet.

How come it's not too hard to find out the exact address or at least the street someone lives on? Because it's either the state and local governments that make that information public , or it's even your FRIENDLY post office. I'm pretty sure most of it comes from the post office. And possibly DMV.

Also, many city governments post MUGSHOTS of who was arrested each day. That is forever on the internet even if the person is innocent.

So why oh why bobtn, would you want the government to be above the LAW again! Liberals always blame corporations for things like this, when in reality the government is the biggest player in all this.

Please stop trying to make more criminals of Americans. We already have the worlds highest prison rate.
