Because more than 90% of Americans believe in God, and it was put back then because of anti-communism. Religion is part of the culture in America.... USA is the most religious western nation.
The national motto has been challenged many times and it is not unconstitutional according to court ruling.
Politicians supports it, as do vast majority of people.
That sort of thing is where it is literally due to the US/USSR interaction in the 50s. Since USSR Communism was "godless" it was important to folks who care about such things to contrast the USA with the USSR - the Pledge of Allegiance was the one I remember reading about - not sure about the money but can bet that it, too, was because of that.
Why is that on our money? I'll still spend it. It works. Stupid logo, though. There is no God.
