In God We Trust is just to remind you that the only thing you can trust in is God, not the worthless piece of paper that you are holding while reading those words.
And as to the "one nation, under God, indivisible" not being true stop and think that maybe the reason we are divided is because so many Americans no longer live under God's rules. The phrase says that our nation will be indivisible if it remains under God.
But hey, that is just my take on what it means... I'm sure someone will think I am wrong. <shrug>
I always thought that this was apropos. After all, the only idol we unequivocally worship in the US is money. It's our father, our son, and our holy spirit. Alpha and Omega. For money, we sell our collective soul.
Because more than 90% of Americans believe in God, and it was put back then because of anti-communism. Religion is part of the culture in America.... USA is the most religious western nation.
The national motto has been challenged many times and it is not unconstitutional according to court ruling.
Politicians supports it, as do vast majority of people.
I seriously doubt that 90% of Americans believe in god, many just say they do so they won't be discriminated against, or so they can run for public office, and many don't care one way or the other...Even among the believers there are doubters.
