So you are OK with the death threat even though it is clearly illegal. That is far more serious than the N word. It is not the N-word by itself. If that had been his only offense you give him a second chance, but he was kicked off two college teams for behavior and now he sexually harrassed a woman at a golf event. If you want him to remain in the league, you have a very low standard...no standard, really.
I think it is being grossly sensationalized. I don't believe for a second that threat should be taken for face value. As far as everything else, his actions are still very relative. Whether I agree with them or not doesn't matter. I personally think he is a scumbag. But if you are going to sit here and be disgusted....there is a much bigger head on the hierarchy of players that need to be "removed from the league". If that's what you genuinely deem a worthy consequence.
When his grandfather came over from Italy, he told the guy at Ellis Island that he no longer wanted to be known by his surname. So the immigration officer, who obviously had a sense of humor, changed grandpa's last name to Incognito.
Back to the specific matter with the Dolphins/Martin/Incognito (though I also agree that Jim Crow was definitely wrong and am glad other posters agree), in a case like this the question you have to ask yourself is this: Are you going to believe or give the benefit of the doubt to the person who has had exemplary behavior (Martin) or the person that has been kicked off two college teams, the Rams, and thinks it is no big deal to use racial slurs, death threats and now the assault on a woman at the golf event?
I repeat this is a very easy call for those of us that are decent, sensible and logical. Don't those that disagree think there was a reason for Incognito getting kicked off those teams?
We can quibble that Martin should have handled it more directly than he did, but he possibly figured if the Dolphins had such lousy judgement as to put this child on their leadership council, he probably would not be taken seriously as Incognito had more authority (unbelievably!) than most Dolphins players. It is like being in a football game and the opponent is spotted 7 or 10 points before the game even starts.
Does this change any minds or at least make those that disagree reconsider their position?
