The number of states will reach 25 max without the SC ruling ssm bans unconstitutional.

And, maybe, yes it should just be changed so homosexuals **** and get over it. But we know it isn't that easy because the Christian nutjobs are just as absurd when it comes to fighting the issue. BUT that doesn't mean you buck what has been a social norm in society for 200+ years for an extreme voting minority. It's simply something that can be brought to the table once the SERIOUS injustices in this country are dealt with.

We have a long list of things in the past that have been a societal norm that were wrong. Just because something has been a societal norm doesn't make it any more or less right.

In an ideologically polarized nation, big issues are going to take time to solve. There is no reason to hold up progress in one place just because other matters are taking longer. Especially when some issues are systemic problems and others are more isolated.

The fight for marriage equality is only an obstacle to addressing other problems in this country if people choose to make it so. Gay people aren't the ones you need to be looking at if you think this issue is a distraction.

What constitutes a "serious" injustice is relative and subjective. To same-sex couples, discrimination against their committed partnerships is a serious problem. Try looking at it this way for a minute...solve what you see as an insignificant problem first and you have that many more people who can refocus on the issues you think are more important.

Another point is that same-sex couples are living right now, today, under restrictions that are oppressive to their lives. If there is an opportunity to correct this injustice in the present, why should they wait? This isn't just about the group, "homosexuals", it's about individual people, too. They don't just want equality to come, they want it to come ASAP so they can live as much of their own lives in a better condition as possible. I don't see how that is unreasonable.

There is no convenient time for social justice. It is always in competition with other priorities. Gains need to be made wherever and whenever possible. Ask Black people, the true "exhibit A" in recent history. If they'd have waited for the White majority's convenience for their essential equalities, they'd still be drinking out of separate fountains. And though it's an old argument, it's still very true that it's easier to fight oppression in the courts than at the ballot box because collective public mindsets change exceedingly slowly. The support of the courts to end injustices aids in the progress of this greater shift. I believe this is demonstrated in the map of SSM progress so far. Laws changed in one place with much controversy, but as additional gains are made, more and more of the public sees the sense and harmlessness of the change. This, to the point where more and more places are now adopting marriage equality by the will of the people.

This is the type of post that annoys the hell out of me.

If you truly believe in a vengeful, violent God, then why is His hot button love? Unless he's a hateful God as well?
This country has seen so much war, greed, lust, & lack of concern for the well being of the greatest gift He gave us (this planet) not to mention the human lives that inhabit it, HIS CHILDREN, that you really believe that SSM is the final straw?

Didn't you know that God bases all of his decision on who to smite based on what people are doing with their genitals? Haven't you noticed the massive tornadoes, earthquakes, and volcanic erruptions that have annihilated the Netherlands?
We are all doomed!!!!!

All SCOTUS did in Hollingsworth vs Perry was kick the ball down the road.
Soon it will be 35 states, then 34 states, then 33 states, then 32 states, until it reaches zero states and gay marriage is legal in every state in the US, it is only a matter of time.

So what are those serious injustices that should be dealt with first? Would you say the same about interracial marriage? Should they not be allowed to get married while we deal with other "serious injustices" first?

That's their job. Civil rights are not up for public vote in a Constitutional Republic.
