The state Supreme Court Friday turned down Republican Gov. Chris Christie's administration request to delay same-sex marriages, clearing the way for the weddings to begin Oct. 21.
A lower-court judge had earlier ruled that same-sex weddings must be allowed starting Monday, and the administration requested a stay.
"The State has advanced a number of arguments, but none of them overcome this reality: same-sex couples who cannot marry are not treated equally under the law today. The harm to them is real, not abstract or speculative," wrote Chief Justice Stuart Rabner in the decision.
Interestingly, there is nothing posted on this on the website of NOM - the National Organization for Marriage. However if you click on the president of that organization's blog, there is a terse statement of a few sentences expressing 'extreme disappointment' at the NJ Supreme Court upholding the ruling of an 'activist' judge.
Another state making a travesty out of the institution of marriage.
Thankfully, the majority of U.S. states exercise common sense and decency by not kowtowing to the fringe gay "marriage" movement.
They would impress the heck out of Harrier by removing state sanction for marriage - placing it into private hands where it belongs.
Government needs to get out of the marriage business.
T-Rob123 understands what Harrier is saying about the government staying out of the marriage business. And T-Rob123 thinks that's a discussion for a different topic, because as Harrier no doubt realizes, government has been in the marriage business for a very long time now. So maybe Harrier could start a thread about the government staying out of all marriages and let T-Rob123 and everyone else here celebrate our continued progress towards equality!
