I know it's supposed to be about labor and stuff, but that's not valued anymore. Sure, we look up to hardworking, chiseled straight white American males who support their families through their manual labor, don't complain about anything, and pull themselves up by their own bootstraps to get ahead. But God forbid if they join a labor union, or if these guys do anything other than hardworking manual labor jobs, or if they don't fit perfectly within the hegemonic white male ideals of America. Plus, Labor Day seems to be the only national holiday where we don't pay lip service to our military serving overseas.

It seems like the values of Labor Day are not shared by the vision of many for America. So why don't we just change the holiday focus to something more in line with America's voice?

If you get the day off.

In many industries holidays are not necessarily a guarantee of time off.

not sure I have ever worked on labor day, unless it was in the service industry. I worked at one company where it was an unpaid holiday.

With so many out of work it does seem pointless.

Since more women are the breadwinners and American men have morphed into Mr. Mom...Maybe American males should give their ladies flowers and chocolates for all they do to keep the American family afloat.

I'm in aviation. Airports don't shut down and someone has to be here.
