Labor unions hatched the idea, and Matthew Maguire supposedly used the occasion to gather socialist agitators to increase union roles and spread socialist ideas.
I know it's supposed to be about labor and stuff, but that's not valued anymore. Sure, we look up to hardworking, chiseled straight white American males who support their families through their manual labor, don't complain about anything, and pull themselves up by their own bootstraps to get ahead. But God forbid if they join a labor union, or if these guys do anything other than hardworking manual labor jobs, or if they don't fit perfectly within the hegemonic white male ideals of America. Plus, Labor Day seems to be the only national holiday where we don't pay lip service to our military serving overseas.
It seems like the values of Labor Day are not shared by the vision of many for America. So why don't we just change the holiday focus to something more in line with America's voice?
The corporate media has a close relationship with Republicans, who are champions of outsourcing and slave wages while pushing for ever increasing corporate earnings and tax breaks. Together they are winning, and they know it. How else do you explain poor white trash screaming for tax breaks for billionaires?
Labor Day is a relic of a time long ago in this country, when labor actually built and created things in this country, not China and other Asian sweatshops.

How many jobs have you created?
Yea, corporate profits are just not high enough, so we "forced" corporations to leave the country. The "job creators" are under attack. Instead of legislation that encourages labor in this country, Republicans have worked late into the night to streamline outsourcing.
But I do get a chuckle out of people regurgitating FOX News talking points.
Meanwhile, corporate America counts its cash while poor white trash scream how mistreated they are by government regulations and labor unions.

It's all because the Union Thugs took on Big Business and won. We all need to join unions and follow their example.
