Your radio, kids in the car, mutts in the car, friends in the car, smoking, drinking, talking, daydreaming etc. are just as dangerous and cause distractions but the phone has been decided by the rulers to be the evil distraction. I mean somebody daydreaming and plowing into another car just doesn't get the press as somebody who was texting their buddy. Maybe cops should set the example and put their damn cell phones down when they are tooling around town to start with?
Until the cell phone/texters start getting long jail sentences just for being caught using one NOTHING WILL CHANGE...
Won't matter, folks are addicted to those things. Just like all the stiffer penalties for drunk driving in the world won't cut down on that number. I mean, think about it, why would you let driving interfere with your need to check your Facebook page for the 180th time today?

You're the one saying so many other things are just as dangerous as the phone.
Talking from both sides of your mouth or just an excuse to rag on cops?
Cell phones, car radios, make up, kids, day dreaming, mp3 players, coffee and food, people who can't read english signs that say do not enter! some people are better at multi-tasking then others and some people can't do anything right even if they have full attention on the road.
Some people are just bad drivers to begin with and giving them another toy to distract them makes accidents more then likely to happen. Not sure not sure being hands free would have solved this problem if your distracted by a phone call.
Its dangerous out there and it always has been long before the CELL phone became the story.
People with cellphones are like 3 year olds with their favorite stuffed toys. Grow up you and concentrate on whats going on around you, you imbeciles!
