Here we go again. In yet another case of the anti-gun crowd losing their collective minds and trying to indoctrinate children into their "Guns are baaaaad" ideology, Strobridge Elementary in Hayward sponsored a toy gun exchange in which children were offered a book and the opportunity to gamble on winning a bicycle.

Apparently, it's okay for our children to gamble in the form of a raffle, but not okay for them to play with plastic toys.

Hayward school to sponsor toy gun exchange - San Jose Mercury News

From the article, this is my favorite quote:

Quote:
“Playing with toys guns, saying ‘I’m going to shoot you,’ desensitizes them, so as they get older, it’s easier for them to use a real gun,” Hill said.
Question for my fellow forum-goers: How many of you played cops-and-robbers, cowboys-and-Indians, or any other shoot 'em up gun games when you were kids? How many had cap guns, bb guns, and Nerf guns? Have you since gone out and shot anyone with a real gun?

How long is stupidity like this going to continue before we collectively get tired of this type of fear-mongering bs and throw these clowns who are supposed to be educating our children out on their ears?

LOL, you have to get a kick out of the thinking that teaching kids gambling is a good option.

"Playing with toys guns, saying 'I'm going to shoot you,' desensitizes them, so as they get older, it's easier for them to use a real gun," Hill said.

And video games are somehow different? How about violent books?

This is simply another case of school authorities showing they completely lack any sort of common sense.

I was a kid in the 50's and had all manner of cap and BB guns. We played Cowboys and Indians a lot. Then I went to 'Nam and the guns were real.

When they are conscripts in a government school, guns are evil. When/ if they join the military or some such law enforcement (lol) agency, guns become a useful tool.
You have to marvel at the inconsistencies of our wise leaders.

Now, if it was trade in your toy gun for a toy drone, as a kid I'd have to think about it.

I'd let my kid trade in an old toy gun then give him a brand spanking new one in front of everyone.
