Is the administration using this massive surveillance to find Tea Party supporters like they did with the IRS? Sure they could get support from congress and judges if they say there is an imminent danger. But what they do with the information is up to the leanings of the bureaucrat doing the wiretap. Americans have lost all confidence in the government and especially in the current administration. We need to go back to protecting our constitution. (OOPs another one of those evil keywords.)
I think your confusing the IRS and the NSA. Not every government agency has
surveillance capability...I doubt that matters much to you, but there it is.

But almost every government agency has data.
FDR used the Census Bureau data to hunt down and round up Japanese-Americans and put them in interment camps.
The government denied that until 2007. Up until 2007 it was tin foil and conspiracy theory.

The Obama administration offered a forceful defense of its decision to secretly obtain more than two months of telephone records from Associated Press journalists. AP lawyers charged this week that the Justice Department conducted a "massive and unprecedented intrusion" into its news-gathering process when federal prosecutors secretly obtained two months of phone records.
Then there is the DOJ going after Rosen of Fox, and everyone knows Obama hates Fox. He tells Holden to investigate himself.

Now every American is under surveillance.
Who defines terrorist.
It seems the definition is fluid.
Now a terrorist is a deranged US citizen or legal immigrant living right here in the good old US of A.
