Los Angeles County health inspectors give letter grades to restaurants and the grades must be posted in a window or on a door.

So the grades are based on sanitary conditions not taste quality?

Yup, that is what those grades mean! Maybe you're thinking of Zagat ratings?

That's like an Olive Garden opening up in Little Italy or a Panda Express in Chinatown
In NYC's famous Little Italy of today, an Olive Garden would be an upgrade for the neighborhood, and Olive Garden is completely horrible. Just don't tell any of our tourists. They actually think they are having a great Italian dining experience on Mulberry Street even though no such thing exists anymore. Just saying...

Yeah, the one time I had Italian food in NYC's Little Italy, I was less than overwhelmed... it wasn't bad, but I could probably find better in SF's North Beach neighborhood.

(and I'm not really a "tourist" in NYC, since my family is from there originally)

I havent been to NYC since the 90's. I was thinking more of Boston or Staten Island.

To cater to those who don't care about what they are eating at the moment.
