Simple carbon particles suspended in the atmosphere cause heating of the atmosphere. These particles can be generated naturally by things such a volcano emissions etc. When you have billion of units of machinery - home heating....the generation of power etc..that run through combustion..then you will have atmospheric warming....Whether it is natural dirt or man man suspensions of dirt...the effect is the same...Human beings along with nature cause global warming. We as personal individuals generate waste product...as a collective we generate waste product. That's just a fact of life....human beings poo and pee and consume...Society world wide is crapping into the sky.
Paint one surface black and one surface white..The black will absorb heat and hold that heat then release that heat. That is global warming in a nut shell...Carbon particles are black. Gases are secondary.
You know, I've always found it interesting that the very same people who push the scientific theory of evolution, in which nature is the end-all and be-all molding force behind every single living organism, refuse to even entertain the notion that climate change is a completely natural occurrence.
Maybe climate change is completely natural. Will you entertain the notion that maybe it isn't?

I'm perfectly willing to entertain the notion that humans have caused global warming. I'm not a scientist, I'm not a specialist in climate, and I don't know what the cause of global warming is. Currently, neither the "people cause global warming" crowd nor the "global warming is natural" crowd have managed to put forward a convincing argument, either here or elsewhere.
I do find it interesting that both sides rely on "scientific" data for their arguments and treat that data like it is some sort of infallible holy book. Everyone tends to forget that little more than 100 years ago scientists were certain that flying was an impossibility for mankind, along with thousands of other recent inventions which couldn't even be comprehended by scientists 150 years ago.
On average, the global average temperature is practically the same. Incoming radiation is equal to outgoing radiation. Yet over millions of years, very insignificant and very minimal daily changes have sent the earth between a ball of ice and a ball of fire.
...Consider the different heat retention properties of things like water and land.
...Consider the physical differences between solid water and water vapor and it's significance to weather.
...Consider the heat retention of the various gases in the atmosphere.
...Consider the fact that the night and day temperatures vary greatly on Mercury and aren't present on Venus.
...Consider the light blocking properties of matter in the atmosphere.
...Consider the temperature inversion in the atmosphere
...Consider the average temperature of the hydrosphere.
...Consider slow moving ocean currents.

Agreed.
My position on climate change is rather simple and I have mentioned it in other threads and got slammed for it: let's use caution in terms of how we treat the planet. Man made warming or cooling, natural warming or cooling; I'd like to treat the earth as I treat my mother. With kindness and respect, as she deserves.

That's pretty much my position as well. In some ways, I feel like the whole man-made vs. natural debate has become a religion for many.

And if humans weren't here, then whatever organism that became the dominant species on Earth, with billions - perhaps even trillions - of individuals would be doing the same bloody thing. So what?!?
The following link shows a few dangers from global warming.
Here we go again: Let's ignore the people whose point is that we can't prove man's effect on climate change, and pretend instead that they are claiming climate change itself doesn't exist.
Then we can keep bashing them for something they never said, and pretend we have some kind of legitimate point when we just made it up out of thin air (pun intended).
And still the big-govt fanatics maintain their perfect 0-for-everything score, for failing to prove any link between man's activites and climate change. After 40-plus years of trying!
