Reid will find his demise, by the very Amendment he is trying to eliminate.

It was put in place for these very actions of our officials, that took an oath to uphold our freedoms, not take them.

Just turning more law abiding people into criminals, as is their goal

There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there it that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted—and you create a nation of lawbreakers—and then you cash in on guilt.

Well, it does say when you discover the theft. If you are on vacation, you would discover the theft when you got home.

It is an odd provision, one that I hope is struck out before any final bill. I assume that the authors of the provision are thinking about those people who illegally traffic in guns and always claim that their lawfully acquired guns were stolen. Perhaps an insurance lobbiest had a hand in this provision.

One more case of punishing the victim, rather than the criminal. THe simple solution would be to make the THEFT of or possession of a stolen firearm a federal felony, punishable by a mandatory 10 year prison sentence. Make the punishment a sufficient deterrent that no criminal will want to touch a stolen firearm. And it would actually punish, you know...the criminal! What a radical concept! But no, in the minds of some sick azzholes it makes more sense to punish the crime victim.

Makes about as much sense as punishing a rape victim for wearing a short skirt. Or a homeowner for a burglary. Or an autotheft victim for when his car is stolen. I mean, he should have secured it better, right?

One more reason dirty Harry has to go. We can't afford to have people this stupid making laws in this country.

Nothing in this bill would have stopped sandy hook. The Reid provision displays the contempt the left has for legal owners

?????

What is this? If I bought the gun at the local gun shop this proposed law doesn't apply?

The only thing that would have prevented Sandy Hook (or Aurora, or GA Tech, or the Giffords shooting, or Columbine) would be if we would address the issue of the violently mentally ill and reinstitute a process of forced confinement. But no, we'd rather put on a show that won't do a thing about reducing violence, but will punish normal, law abiding people.

By the way, if you sell your car or it is stolen and used in a crime and you haven't reported it after a reasonable amount of time, you have some liability perhaps even criminal liability.
