Mike Lofgren: America’s Three-Tiered Justice System « Public Intelligence Blog

This article states some of the problems facing what is the oxymoronic system we call justice.
It is a far cry from what our forefathers envisioned for a free and sovereign people.

We have the best justice system money can buy.

Case in point: OJ Simpson.

Not a good example because OJ was framed by a prosecutor more interested in his own fame and glory than actually finding out who killed those people.

I do agree that we do not practice equal justice for all. The poor have no justice. The middle class cannot afford real justice. The exceptional wealthy and politically connected are above the restraint of the law.

It is no longer about justice. It is all about control.

Alas... that case needs to blamed on the LAPD, and not Simpson "buying" his way out. They got caught trying to frame a guilty man.

OJ could afford a top-of-the-line defense team. If he had no money, and had to rely on an over burdened public defender, he would be on death row right now.

You must not know many public defenders. A vast number of them are remarkably gifted advocates.

And this is a huge flaw, IMO. But, that is the way of the world. Money talks, and...well... you know the rest.

I've believed for some time our system would be better titled 'justas', as in 'justas' big as your bankroll is.

I know lots of public defenders. The problem isn't how gifted they are; the problem is caseload. Far, far too many cases. Not nearly enough funding.
