Republicans also thought dumping 4 trillion dollars down the toilet in Iraq and Afghanistan was a wonderful idea.

Now, they're "concerned" about the debt. And they hate the notion of spending American tax dollars in America.

I can't help but notice that obama hasn't brought my son home from Afghanistan yet, nor any of the other service members that are STILL there, going on FIVE YEARS into his terms.
This is no longer the Republican's war, it is OBAMA'S war now! He and his Demoncrap cronies can NOT pass the buck anymore about ANYTHING! It is ALL on his plate now! For the second time, HE IS the MMMFIC!
However, all of that has nothing to do with the current sequestration business, nor does it change the fact that if ANYBODY takes a financial hit, it should start at the top, with members of ALL parties.
Besides, they are nearly ALL millionaires if not multi-millionaires, they don't NEED those government paychecks! They CAN afford to lose their Federal salaries! Those of us on SS or DFAS pay can NOT afford to lose any of it!

That's like saying Vietnam wasn't LBj's war.

After 1968, it WAS no longer LBJ's war, because Nixon didn't bring the troops home. It then became NIXON'S war.
It is really very simple. During his FIRST term, obama could, with some logic, call it "Bush's War". FOUR YEARS later, and going into his SECOND term, it is now OBAMA'S WAR.
He COULD have stopped it, but he DID NOT! HE owns it now!

BUT, that is NOT related to the real point of the thread! The point is, make the financial pain felt WHERE IT BELONGS, at the top tiers of government! Hit THEM in the wallet, and see how quick the financial problems get compromised and solved!

Come to think of it, though, it does bring up, by extension, another good idea: Take the top tiers of government, the President and all the members of Congress and the Cabinet, send THEM off to war with the latest and greatest equipment, for a year. THEY think nothing of sending OUR sons over there, let's send THEM (and their wives) instead! I bet there wouldn't BE any wars!
Yeah, Mr. President and congress critters, LEAD FROM THE FRONT!
instead of way back in the rear...

Democrats jumped on board with that as quick as they possibly could. Nice try though.

In 2007, Obama said he will be ending the wars when he took office. Hasn't happened. Every bomb dropped and every deployment since Obama took over office, is on HIS dime! The order has to come from him.

It is now HIS war.

How do you convince congressmen to lower their own pay?

There are just NOT ENOUGH people that can threaten to vote out the incumbent.

You don't understand the federal budget if you think stopping presidential and congressional pay would make up the difference to pay for social security, medicare, and military spending if the debt ceiling wasn't raised.

I'm tired of people just repeating crap they see on the internet without doing the slightest research to see if it even makes sense.

Can't stop their pay. That would violate minimum wage and several other workplace laws.
